Yesterday morning during our morning rounds we saw Savanna gave birth to her first litter sometime overnight and did an amazing job ☺️. Individual photos of the three littles coming soon 🥰

Some photos of the Northern lights over the last two nights. The first two photos are from the first night and the last two are from the second night.
They're taken at the pier in Port Clinton facing Lake Erie which is one of Corey's favorite spots in Port Clinton. His grandfather and him used to take their boat from the Portage River out to the lake so anytime we are in Port Clinton we like to stop there. ( We are visiting his grandparents more often than usual right now for anyone who doesn't know about Xena the Pitty and her recent diagnosis). This was the first choice we chose to go for the lights and we had to share these with you all.

Everyone that's traveling to the convention this year, please travel safely and be careful 🙏🙏🙏 Also good luck ☺️

Last week we were lucky enough to pick up these stunning cavies to join our herd for our skinny program 😁 Thank you so much Hippocampus Caviary for giving us the opportunity to have these wonderful cavies here at Great Lakes Cavies. Dunn's Critter Transport did an amazing job getting them safely to us ☺️ thank you so much.

✨ We are currently seeking out a new local farmer to get our hay bales from. If anyone local has any leads and could let us know we really appreciate it. ✨

We can only store a few bales at a time in our outdoor space. We have been using the same farmer for over the year until last week. All cavies do have hay and always will, we just would really like to find a new farmer as soon as possible if anyone can please help us point us in the right direction we would be more than appreciative 🙏

So exciting 😁

We have one new breed presentation this year at convention, Swiss. This will be Monday November 17 at 9am.

We are also expecting entries of Crested and Lunkarya (eligible for first showing in 2026) as well as some up and coming breeds/varieties such as Skinny Pig, Lux and Devils. The Crested COD holders are offering awards for BOB and BOSB. It would be fun to have the breeders of some of the other non-recognized breeds/varieties offer something.

Update on Great Lakes Cavies Hope

Hope is doing amazing and is already one of our loudest wheekers in the wheeking chorus. She's growing well and an amazing eater. She didn't want to hold still for her photo though 😂 she was more interested in the carrot props. She is a chocolate carrier and we are excited to see how she matures 😊.
