This is why staying on a regular grooming schedule is so important 🐾

This sweet pup came in severely pelted—meaning the coat was completely matted down to the skin. At this point, brushing it out is not an option without causing pain. The only safe and humane choice is a full shave-down.

Matting like this isn’t just about appearance. It can cause:
• Constant pulling and discomfort
• Skin irritation and bruising
• Trapped moisture leading to infections
• Hidden sores or skin issues underneath

Once the coat was removed, you could immediately tell there was relief—but situations like this are completely preventable.

✨ The best thing you can do for your dog is keep them on a consistent grooming schedule (every 4–8 weeks). This keeps their coat healthy, comfortable, and avoids situations like this altogether.

As a reminder, I now require all clients to stay on a regular schedule to ensure every dog receives the care they deserve šŸ’›

If you’re unsure what schedule is best for your dog, I’m happy to help guide you.

A grooming video from a Louisiana salon is currently going viral. It may have already crossed your timeline.

The video, posted by the salon themselves, shows a small dog tethered in a way no animal should ever experience. The restraint is positioned so high that the dog cannot place its front feet on the tub grates. The dog is left dangling, struggling to stabilize itself, while being sprayed with high-pressure water.

You see the dog thrashing. Rolling. Gasping. Eyes wide. Absolutely petrified.

And this was posted as humor.

When viewers expressed concern, the response given was:
ā€œWe can’t help it if a dog doesn’t like water.ā€

Let me be very clear.

A terrified dog struggling to breathe is not funny.
Panic is not funny.
Distress is not entertainment.

This is heartbreaking. This is unacceptable. And this is exactly why our industry NEEDS standards.

Grooming is not just about finishing a haircut. It is about handling living, feeling animals who rely entirely on us for safety. If a dog is too fearful to safely complete a service, the answer is not force. The answer is patience, training, modified handling or declining the service.

This job is not for everyone.

It requires patience.
It requires education.
It requires skill.
And above all, it requires heart.

Dogs deserve to feel safe when they are in our care.
And as professionals, we owe them nothing less.

If im not the groomer for you thats okay. But PLEASE do your research, ask about their credentials, ask how they learned, ask about handling certifications. Because this industry has NO REGULATIONS OR STANDARDS.

Taking a few days away to grieve the loss of my sweet Adele. She was my first dog, my shadow through all of my twenties, and the reason I fell in love with grooming in the first place. She stood by me through my darkest seasons and celebrated with me in my brightest ones. I don’t know what life looks like without her, but I know I’ll carry her love with me always. šŸ’”šŸ¾
