Hey friends, head's up.

The current avian flu strain is proving to be 70-90% fatal to cats and super contagious (to other cats, NOT contagious to humans at this time).

Niner just got back from a Veterinary conference for his LVT licensure. IF you feed your cat raw food, don't right now, while the Avian flu is so widespread. There have been a ton of cat deaths because avian flu has been found in the raw food. Including a large pride of wild cats who were fed raw food and all died, which is so awful, as I'm sure some of them were endangered.

Don't panic, just be careful. Be careful if your cats are indoor/outdoor. ❤ Be careful letting outdoor cats have contact with your fully indoor cats, even though a screen.

Holiday schedule next week!

We will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and closed July 4 and 5.

So, fireworks and cats. Yippee! If your cat dislikes the startling nature of July 4th celebrations, here are some tips:

1. This should go without saying on nights like July 4, but keep your cat indoors after dark. It’ll reduce the risk of them being spooked. If you have a TRUE scaredy cat, remember to close the windows.

2. Create a safe space for your cat. A cardboard box lined with blankets is perfect. Many cats feel safer higher up so placing the box on a sturdy shelf is even better. Closet shelf? WIN. And, contrary to what you might think, letting a cat have the run of the house rather than locking them in one room during fireworks is actually LESS stressful. The only exception being, if the doors to outside will be opening and closing, then give them the run of one section of the house, away from the door.

3. Play music, TV, or--trust me on this one--an audiobook. Cats and loud noises don’t necessarily mix. Keeping a radio or TV on distract a bit from the sudden sounds of fireworks. A show with a calmer audio track is better. Bob's Burgers: always a hit with cats. For me, it'll always be an audiobook. Cats LOVE the sound of a human voice reading a story.

4. Calming aids, yes! A pheromone plug-in or spray, a calming collar, a dose of CBD, a thundershirt (we have all of these at the shop, but this isn't a sales post) can help the scaredies.

5. This is the most important one: stay calm yourself. When unusual sounds happen, your cats will look to you for danger cues. Don't baby them, avoid the "It's okay, you're okay" trap. Pretend nothing is happening. Go on with your evening as if everything is just fine. If your cat wants reassurance from you, they will come. It’s best to avoid overwhelming your cat by constantly checking on them in their safe space, or by soothing, soothing, soothing. That will convey that something is, indeed, wrong.

Last but not least, here is little kitten, Stanley, modeling a bolo tie.

I wanted to share a February de-shed versus a June de-shed, starring 12 year old fluffer extraordinaire, Loki. This is why we were booking grooming fairly easily in February and we're booking into August now. 😄 But, August isn't so far away, so if your cat is hiding an extra cat-worth of excess winter undercoat, give me a call on Monday. 😉

Hey, friends!

SCHEDULE UPDATES:

I hope you enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. We are going to be closed *for DROP-IN and SHOPPING only* tomorrow, Monday, and Tuesday. (We will also have no shop hours on Friday, May 30, because your girl has a super fun appointment that day that ends in "oscopy," and involves a LOT of Gatorade. 😂💩)

DO NOT WORRY if you are dropping off or picking up your kitties who are boarding. I will be here; the shop will just be closed.

Niner is away helping his mom move, and I am caring for 27 cats. I have underestimated my superhero skills insofar as what it actually takes to care for 27 cats alone, so I just decided I'm going to take the long weekend to lock the doors and focus on the enormous number of kittos in my care. So, let me give a clear visual:

Saturday, 5/24: closed for drop-in and shopping
Sunday, 5/25: regular closed day
Monday, 5/26: closed for Memorial day
Tuesday, 5/27: Lynda grooming alone, closed for drop-in and shopping
Wednesday, 5/28: regular closed day
Thursday, 5/29: regular closed day
Friday, 5/30: Niner grooming alone in the evening, closed for drop-in and shopping
Saturday: back to normal!

NINER: Do you think you got enough off?
ME: (looks in collection box) Um...definitely.

Hi Friends! Just a friendly heads-up. We're booking into August now for FULL groomings, i.e., including a bath.

Still able to book small services like nail trims, b***y shaves, ear cleanings, comb outs within the week you call, usually. But hey, it's an improvement over 2021-2024, when we were booking 10 months out, right? 😉

Give me a call: 716-401-3402 (*not a textable number*) to schedule!

Also, reminder to book your cats' summer vacation stay with us as soon as you know your dates, because we do fill up when school's out. And, Big Mike says Cat Camp is fun:

Professor Vincent William Giblets III has a new roommate at the shop! This is Blondie. He's 13, and he likes snacks, bags, his cardboard scratchy bed, and being brushed. Interesting fact about him, he can fall asleep in, like, two seconds, wherever he is, as is evidenced in the second photo. 😆

He's a welcome addition to the long line of hospitality cats who came before him, and he looks so much like BoBo Fluff, it freaks us out! He's still shy about downstairs, so you'll most likely be greeted by Professor Giblets when you come in the shop. But if you go upstairs, you can meet him.

A few announcements:

1. We decided to handle inflation our way, so we've lowered the prices on the vast majority of our gift shop items, some by half! If you need to run out for a birthday card or quick gift, please think of stopping in at our humble little shop instead of the big stores. We have lots of handmade (by moi) items, too.

Hey friends, happy Caturday. We are open until 7 today, but we're dashing out to pick up a kitty pal who needs a place to stay for a couple of weeks, but we'll be back. Meanwhile, enjoy the adorable Catalyn, who aced her first grooming last evening.

I had a grooming appointment become available today at 5 p.m. Let me know if you'd like to grab it

In other news, I brought in a bag of new catnip toys to package and put out, but Professor Giblets had other plans. 🤣 We have learned he is a formidable toy hunter!
