Senior pets don’t handle summer heat the same way they used to. ☀️🐾

As pets age, it becomes harder for their bodies to regulate temperature efficiently — especially for those with arthritis, heart disease, respiratory conditions, or extra weight.

That means hot days can feel exhausting much faster, even during normal activities they once loved. 🩺

You may notice:
💙 Slower walks
💙 More panting
💙 Sleeping more during the day
💙 Less interest in outdoor activity

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do for senior pets is slow down with them.

Shorter walks, cooler hours, extra water, shaded rest spots, and air conditioning can make a big difference in helping older pets stay safe and comfortable through the summer months.

They may not move as quickly anymore — but they still love every moment spent with you. 🐶🐱

“He didn’t want a pet.”
Now they:
🐾 Share a recliner
🐾 Have matching nap schedules
🐾 Go on daily “supervised perimeter checks” around the yard
🐾 Somehow have full conversations with each other

Honestly, some of the strongest pet bonds we see are between dads and their pets. 💙

Whether it’s early morning walks, sharing snacks they definitely weren’t supposed to share, or becoming the official thunderstorm comfort person — pets have a way of turning dads into total softies.

Happy Father’s Day to all the pet dads, step-pet dads, grand-pet dads, and “I said we’re NOT getting a dog” dads out there. 🐶🐱

⚠️ What Texas Hill Country Pet Owners Need to Know About Screwworms

New World Screwworm larvae can burrow into wounds and feed on living tissue, causing severe damage if left untreated.

🛡️ Protect your pets by:
• Checking coats and skin daily
• Keeping wounds clean and covered
• Maintaining parasite prevention
• Keeping coats groomed and mat-free

🚨 If you notice maggots, egg clusters, foul odors, or a non-healing wound, contact a veterinarian immediately.

Fireworks and summer storms can be stressful for pets — and for many dogs and cats, the anxiety starts long before the noise does. 🎆⛈️

In fact, studies suggest over 70% of dogs display stress-related behaviors, and as many as 50% of cats experience emotional stress at some point in their lives. 🐾

Shaking, hiding, pacing, vocalizing, clinginess, or trying to escape are all common signs of noise anxiety.

The good news? Planning ahead can make a BIG difference. 🩺💙

During June, talk with our team about safe, appropriate options to help your pet feel calmer and more secure during high-noise events.

Preparing early can help reduce fear, panic, and injury before peak summer celebrations begin.

📞 Call today to schedule your pet’s anxiety visit before the end of June.

Before the walk:
⚡🐕💨 Parkour off the furniture.
Zoomies at maximum speed.
Acting like they’ve been trapped inside for 84 years.

After the walk:
😴🛋️ Suddenly unable to keep their eyes open.
Collapsed dramatically in the middle of the floor.
Snoring 12 minutes later.

Daily walks don’t just help burn energy — they also provide mental stimulation, enrichment, and stress relief for dogs. 🧠🐾

A well-exercised dog is usually a much happier (and sleepier) dog. 😂

Kids are GREAT at loving pets. 🐶💙
But learning how to listen to them matters too.

Teaching children to recognize pet body language can help prevent fear, stress, and even bites or scratches.

Here are a few important signs to teach kids:

😊 “I’m comfortable”
✔️ Loose body
✔️ Soft eyes
✔️ Relaxed tail
✔️ Approaching willingly

😟 “I need space”
⚠️ Lip licking
⚠️ Yawning
⚠️ Looking away
⚠️ Tucked tail
⚠️ Ears back

🚫 “Please stop”
🚩 Growling
🚩 Hissing
🚩 Stiff body posture
🚩 Showing teeth
🚩 Swatting

One of the best lessons we can teach kids is this:
Pets communicate with their bodies first — we just have to pay attention. 🩺🐾

Save this for families with kids + pets!

“Everything looked normal at home.”
We hear that all the time — and sometimes, that’s exactly why bloodwork matters. 🩺🩸

Physical exams tell us a LOT, but bloodwork helps us see what we can’t:
🔬 Early kidney disease
🔬 Liver changes
🔬 Infection & inflammation
🔬 Diabetes
🔬 Thyroid issues
🔬 Anemia & dehydration

Many pets hide illness incredibly well, especially in the early stages. Bloodwork gives us a look “behind the scenes” before symptoms become obvious.

That’s why routine lab work is one of the best tools we have for catching problems early and helping pets stay healthier, longer. 💙

Ask us if your pet is due for bloodwork. 🐾

🚨 Health Alert: Screwworms Confirmed in Gillespie County 🚨

The USDA and Texas Animal Health Commission have confirmed a case of New World Screwworm in Gillespie County.

Unlike typical maggots, screwworm larvae feed on living tissue, making them a serious threat to dogs, cats, livestock, and other warm-blooded animals.

🐾 Higher-risk pets include:
✔️ Outdoor dogs and cats
✔️ Hunting and working dogs
✔️ Pets on acreage
✔️ Long-haired or matted pets

🔍 Check your pet daily for wounds, unusual odors, drainage, excessive licking, or visible larvae.
