🐕HEATSTROKE IN DOGS🐕

We've been banging on about this for years! HEATSTROKE is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY! Fortunately, now more and more professionals are communicating the same message!

Whilst the need for rapid cooling with COLD water (1-15°C) has been recognised for decades in equestrian and human medicine, the dog world has lagged behind, and very poor information still circulates. e.g. "cool the paws", "cover with wet towels", "avoid cold water as it will cause shock"

THE KEY MESSAGES ARE............

💦"WET THEN VET"💦

💦"COLD WATER IMMERSION" (1-15°C)💦
(If you can't immerse, keep pouring ANYTHING COLD over the dog - hose, soft drinks, milk, etc)

💦Dogs die of heatstroke because they were NOT COOLED QUICKLY ENOUGH, NOT BECAUSE THEY WERE COOLED!

♨️RISK FACTORS FOR HEATSTROKE IN HOT WEATHER♨️

♨️Large dogs
♨️DOUBLE-COATED breeds
♨️Brachycephalic breeds
♨️June, July, August (UK)
♨️Exercise, being outdoors, left in cars

EDIT: - If a dog is PANTING, it's struggling to control its body TEMPERATURE! 💦HOSE IT TO COOL IT DOWN!💦

❤️PLEASE SHARE - Spread accurate information; potentially save a dogs life!❤️

Ah! So behind on the social media side of things. We’ve had a great spring between private sessions, B&T’s, day trains, and refreshers.

Skye, Louie, Luna, Munson, + Molly are all new to the BRC pack and have all put in some great work.

⭐️ We still have some summer availability and are booking for the fall!

It’s that time of year for a booking reminder!

With Spring just rolling in and Summer soon after make sure you get your training reservations in, especially our yearly refresher clients. We currently still have availability for our programs, refresher weeks, and one on one private lessons through both seasons.

Check out these happy dogs in training. We’ve been soaking in the Spring weather and these longer days. It’s our favorite time of year to train!

Between the wind, snow, ice, and frigid temps this winters been brutal for training but it hasn’t stopped this crew of pups. Meanwhile we (the trainers) are counting down the days for Spring to make its appearance. As much has we love the snow around here we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a mild March 🤞🏻

✨PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT✨

This year we have brought back our two week B&T program! Our Jump Start Camp is great for dogs six months of age and older (we still offer our two week puppy program for the baby’s) to help get you and your dog on the right track. This program will primarily focus on your dogs basics, cleaning up their leash skills, + creating some nice engagement to continue building on back at home.

We require a full evaluation to customize your dogs stay and to make sure that this particular program fits your dogs training goals.

🎁 FYI 🎁
Gift Cards are available for purchase. Training makes a great gift to put towards private one on one lessons or one of our training programs.

Pepsi and Dixie joined us a few weeks ago; they are two of the sweetest cattle dogs we’ve had the pleasure of working with however, these sisters were out of control wild, unmanageable back at home, and lacked that desired relationship between their family. We’ve been working on some much needed manners, obedience, and giving them a nice outlet to help release their energy and drive.

These two sisters will be heading back home soon but for now we have quite a bit of proofing left to do. Littermate syndrome can be easily overlooked between two dogs (fun fact : they do not need to be related for this to develop) and these two have a strong case of it. One of the biggest risks is your dogs valuing their relationship with each other vs you and your relationship - we’re less fulfilling, boring in a sense compared to and they become easily codependent on one another - we’re toast. These girls love to work as a unit and feed off one another’s energy especially when highly aroused - their genetic makeup just amplifies this. Separate kennels, hand feedings, solid name recognition, individual one on one time including structured walks, heavy play, and daily training, are all great ways to help keep at bay and manage. Overtime, building individual relationships with each of them paired with the above has helped significantly.

Within their stay we got to see quite a few of our favorite past trainees too! We also got to enjoy our first snow of the season - fingers crossed for a big one!
