Saw this on a taxidermy forum just a bit ago. It’s a reminder of how I built my business many years ago. It’s also a reminder that it’s the course that remains moving forward. This statement turned my little side job basement business into a monster that I quite honestly have not been able to control. Even over the past 30 years as prices have increased by leaps and bounds clients keep coming back year after year for quality work. Who knows where we go from here, all I know is details will never be ignored, being rushed will never sacrifice quality. So many people are traveling and hunting again it’s just crazy. There’s going to be so much work available to taxidemists everywhere in the next year, many like me are already behind. I’ll be doing my best to help those I can which will mostly be existing clientele and for those that I can’t I’ll try to refer to someone that will provide the same type of attention to detail. There’s been a lot of work going on going on in here and if you haven’t seen your mount on here or heard anything it’s not because you’ve been forgotten. Thanks for everyone’s patience, now back to the grind and back to finishing some details.

Pics just for attention, the local turkey season gets in gear tomorrow with Youth day and Virginia season opener. As a reminder, I will not be accepting turkeys for mounting. I may accept a few fan, beard mounts but that’s it. I have way too many backlog birds to get done and I really don’t enjoy working on them anyway. I’ll do my best to refer mounts to someone more suited to accept them. Thanks, and wish all the young ones success tomorrow

Current situation, putting together a big Alaskan moose. Working through a shoulder injury right now, but making the best of it. Thanks to my Dad for hooking up the electric hoist. First time getting to use it, almost like having 2 more hands.

2023 went as fast as it came. Although I got a lot of mounts completed I wish I could have gotten more done. Hoping and planning to be more caught up in 2024. Thanks to all my clients who continue to support me and who are very patient as I work through backlog. Thanks again!

Finished up a rock habitat/ mural project today. Just have to add a lifesize Dall sheep now . Enjoyable project for a good long time client. Looking forward to placing other mounts in the scene in the future. Built in place custom habitats are a cool option for displaying mounts in their natural environment. There are so many options available for these indoor habitats. Anyone interested please contact me for design consultation and pricing.

Last morning of MD fi****ms starts off chilly with a little fog over the fields. Not sure if it’s just my observation but it really seems that the fi****ms season has lost its luster compared to years ago. I passed a public hunting area this morning which only had 1 vehicle in the lot, the first Saturday was packed. Seems like many have thrown in the towel. This was the first time I believe since I’ve been in business that I didn’t receive one call or email this week regarding a deer mount from MD gun season. Changing times it seems to me, more people hunt the first two weeks in November now than the 2 weeks of gun. Hope those who are out have a safe and enjoyable day!!

Good morning , just a few pics to show some details in the work I do. It’s the time of year for pricing phone calls, how much and how long does it take. Yes I tend to be on the higher end of price, and yes I’m behind although making good ground on catching up on deer at least. Anyone that gets a deer to mount, please take a look at peoples work, even get references. Paying less for something that turns out bad and doesn’t last just costs more in the end. At the end of the day most all of us spend to much time and money on pursuing our outdoor interests so that we can maybe harvest a trophy. Why then after all that, go the discount route on the taxidermy that is the reward for all your hard work and money spent? Time frame seems to be even more important, unfortunately every taxidermist I know that puts out top shelf quality is far behind, quality brings demand, amd demand equals backlog. There’s my Sunday morning preaching segment!! Get out there and hunt, they are still running! In my personal hunts I’ve seen heavier rut this year than in the past few years, but numbers in the shop and processors tells me there are not that many mature deer being taken, lots of 2 yr old bucks for euros and some 3’s. What’s everyone else been seeing? Enjoy the day!

Nice frosty morning for youth hunters this morning. For me this is the most enjoyable weekend of the season. Been a real blessing being able to enjoy these hunts with my daughter. Hope everyone else enjoys these moments, nothing better than getting outdoors with kids hunting and fishing! Really hope everyone is successful and safe this weekend. Obviously we will be accepting deer for mounts and feel free to throw up pics of your kids deer in the comments!

Happy to be working once again with Jason McIntosh of Endless Harvest Deer Processing. This will really help those in Northern Va looking for a good quality processor close to home. Excited to able to recommend their services to my clients in Va and looking forward to getting some nice deer from that area for mounts.

Already over a month into the Deer season and early muzzle starting tomorrow. Many have asked, and yes, we are currently accepting deer. Although still running significantly behind schedule on many things I am making head way on whitetails. Also I’m currently making adjustments and changes to other items that I will either be cutting way back on or possibly no longer accepting at least until the backlog is more manageable. Yes prices have increased a good bit the past 3 years and yes I’m behind but as frustrating as it is sometimes it’s kinda considered to be a blessing to have this much demand. Have to have been something right over the years. Thanks again to those who are being patient with the process and who have support this business for so many years now. I still strive for quality, always trying to better, pushing to be as good as it can possibly be and hoping to be quicker at return time. But quality will never be sacrificed. Quality and detail is the foundation this was built on. For those going out the next few days be careful out there and I wish everyone success!

It’s crazy how quickly it went from the season just beginning to now being the end of the first week of October. Pa has now started and Va also. Week and half yet and early muzzle will be on us. Congrats to all those who have already found success! We are working hard to get a grip on backlog and return to a more favorable return time for our clients. Thanks for your continued patience through this process of getting caught up, and thanks to those who have brought new work already this season. I wish everyone success the next few weeks as we draw closer to the most fun time of year especially for us bow hunters. Enjoy the season and enjoy your time spent outdoors, especially when spent with family and friends! Be safe out there……….Youngs Wildlife

Hard to believe archery season begins tomorrow here in MD. Seems to still be a decent amount of deer carrying velvet still. I hope everyone out there tomorrow has successful and safe hunts. Gonna be crazy hot for the opener, anyone that is fortunate enough to harvest velvet bucks take extra care when handling and get them cold and to a taxidermist as quickly as possible for treatment. As the season begins, take the time if you get a deer that you want mounted to check closely on quality of work. There have been so many advancements in taxidermy and in education opportunities that there are more decent commercial taxidermists now than there has been in a while in my opinion. Often it’s details, that’s the difference between one or another. Look closely, those who do high quality detailed work appreciate people that know what to look for and can recognize good work. I believe that I continue to raise the bar and I look forward to providing my clients with some really nice work this coming season. 2023 season, it’s go time!
