Took the tractor to my dad’s this morning to spread out 10 yards of Limestone. This was my first time spreading rock. Don’t feel like I did too bad.

We finally got some rain! After not getting really any rain in July we got almost an inch and a half this afternoon.

I grew up eating the standard American diet and it’s been quite the journey over the years to change the way I view food.

Homemade food makes up the majority of our diet (and a little chick-fil-a), but I was still using commercial flour. Now, that I’ve tried bread made with freshly milled flour I don’t think I can ever go back. I assumed it was an extra burden I couldn’t get to while homeschooling (mom of 8 here 🙋‍♀️), housekeeping, cooking, etc., but it doesn’t actually add that much to the process of baking.

The next step is to make bulk batches of breakfast items and bread to make my life easier.

If you use freshly milled flour what are your favorite things to make in bulk and freeze? If you use ancient grains and have a favorite please let me know!

If you’re interested in starting we do have a coupon for $20 off your first order of $200 or more. We own the Nutrimill Classic.

When do yall start stocking up on hay for the winter? Do yall have a preference on which cut you get?

We picked up 20 bales of the second cutting this morning. Needing another 40-50 to get me through winter this year.

Decided to finally cut out by the street yesterday evening. It was a lot more work than I thought it would be. With the grass over 2’ tall, we had a ton of grass clipping I had to clean up. Look at this massive pile!

I’ll let it dry out for a little while then use it as much and compost.

Let’s talk skin care for a second. What do yall do to protect yourself from the sun day in and day out? Sunscreen? Big hat?

I very very rarely wear any sunscreen anytime I’m outside. Not just here at the farm but at the beach or anywhere else at that.

Something told me back in June to go see a dermatologist. Waited a month to get in. Finally got in and the spots I was kind of worried about were all good but the Doctor found a spot right above my right eyebrow that was pretty concerning to him. Turned out to be a pre cancerous Solar Keratosis spot from all the sun.

Got the new garden area cleaned up this afternoon with the help of the boys. We moved out down cardboard paper over the weeds then hoofed over 3 yards of garden soil. We’ll be adding some compost to it in the next few days.

This will be our kitchen herb garden.
