Not April Fools'...
But it is Heartworm Awareness Month!

April is Heartworm Awareness Month, so in the effort to learn more about heartworm disease (dirofilaria immitis) we’ve put together some helpful information!

Facts:
-Heartworm is transmitted through mosquito bites.
-No state is free from heartworm infection, but the Southeast United States are the most severely infected.
-100,000+ dogs test positive for heartworms yearly.
(Side Note: it’s estimated that over 1 million dogs live in the US with heartworms.)
-A heartworm’s life expectancy in a dog is 5-7 years.
-98% of dogs testing heartworm+ make a full recovery
(The treatment and recovery process is a difficult journey requiring multiple medications, injections, and even sometimes special diets depending upon the damage done to their bodies while infected.)

Prevention:
-Veterinarian recommended prevention medication
-Regular testing at your vet’s office
Symptoms:
-dry cough
-lethargy
-weight loss/anorexia
-changes in breathing
-exercise intolerance
*These symptoms can present with many different ailments. If you notice any of these, contact your vet.

We just wrapped up an incredible few days in Tampa for our annual owner's conference, and we’re still feeling the energy! From powerful keynotes to hands-on workshops, this year’s conference was all about growth, connection, and leveling up as business owners.

💡 We reset our culture.
📈 We embraced new tech & AI.
🎭 We celebrated at our Masquerade Gala & Annual Awards.
🐾 And most importantly, we gave back.

The biggest highlight? Together, we raised over $2,500 for Suncoast Animal League—a no-kill rescue that’s changing lives through adoption, therapy dog programs, and critical medical care. ❤️

This event reminded us why we do what we do. The Dog Wizard is more than just a brand—it’s a family dedicated to making a difference. 🚀

We believe each dog is an individual and has unique needs so we do not have a one size fits all training approach but a balanced training method that allows us to use what works best for your dog. We offer free evaluations to assess the needs of your dog and make the right program recommendations.
