#31

We received a call about this cat roaming and in rough shape. The finder was able to safely trap her and bring her to us.

This sweet girl is severely anemic from a heavy flea infestation and has open sores covering much of her body, including the pads of her feet. She also has an ear tip, indicating she was previously part of a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program and was spayed at some point in her life.

After safely sedating her, we performed a triple test, and surprisingly, she tested negative. We then gave her the care she desperately needed: a medicated bath, gentle brushing, ear cleaning, antibiotics, a dexamethasone injection, dewormer, flea/tick treatment, and vaccinations.

The condition she was found in is heartbreaking. It almost appears as though she may have been trapped somewhere in unsanitary conditions for an extended period of time. Regardless of what happened, she is now safe, receiving treatment, and on the road to recovery.

Unfortunately, cases like this come with significant medical expenses, and our veterinary bills continue to grow. We desperately need your help to continue providing lifesaving care for animals like her.

If you would like to donate toward her treatment and our increasing vet bills, any amount is greatly appreciated. Every dollar helps us give animals like this sweet girl a second chance. ❤️🐾

💔 We Need Your Help for This Sweet Girl 💔

Sometimes rescue is heartbreaking. This is one of those times.

This precious girl has clearly been through more than any dog should ever have to endure. When she came to us, it quickly became apparent that she was suffering. After a veterinary evaluation, we learned she is heartworm positive, her right ACL is completely torn, and her left ACL is partially torn. She is already struggling to walk, yet she remains gentle and loving despite everything she has endured.

After being shaved, even more signs of neglect became visible—healing sores and scrapes, flea dirt throughout her coat, and significant hair loss around her tail and lower back. We may never know exactly what happened to her, but it appears she was discarded when she needed help the most.

She has been started on doxycycline and pain medication, and may also need heart medication. The road ahead includes heartworm treatment and costly ACL surgery if she is going to have the chance to live a comfortable, pain-free life.

We are asking for your help.

Our veterinary bill at Davis Vet continues to grow, and now we are facing the expenses of treating this sweet girl’s many medical needs. Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly toward her care and give her a chance at the life she deserves.

She didn’t deserve to be abandoned.
She didn’t deserve to suffer.
But she does deserve a second chance.

If you can donate, please do. If you can’t, please share her story. Together, we can help her heal, recover, and eventually find the loving home she should have had all along.

❤️ Thank you for standing with us and for standing with her. Every dollar, every share, and every prayer means more than you know. ❤️

See something? Say something.

If you witness animal cruelty or neglect in Marion County, please report it to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. If you are outside of Marion County, report it to your county officials.

This can include animals being dumped, abused, left without food, water, shelter, or medical care, or living in unsafe conditions.

For emergencies, call 911.
For non-emergency reports in Marion County, call 601-736-5051
For City Animal Control, call 769- 204-9339 or 601) 731-2991

Since the shelter is a joint-effort facility operated by the City of Columbia and Marion County you can call City Hall to get in contact with Mayors office and your district’s Alderman to voice your concerns and complaints at 601-736-8202. County residents call 601-736-7382 to speak with supervisors or look at their website for individual work issued cell phone numbers to contact the correct supervisor where you live in Marion county.

When reporting, share as many details as you can: location, description of the animal, what you saw, dates/times, and photos or videos if you can safely get them.

Please do not trespass or put yourself in danger. Rescues can help, when possible, but we are not law enforcement and cannot investigate or remove animals without proper authority.

If your county does not have animal control, your local police department or sheriff’s office should be the agency responding to reports of cruelty or neglect. Keep checking on the report to make sure someone followed up.

Animals cannot speak for themselves. Your report could be the reason they get help.

See something. Say something. Report it.

I for one am sick and tired of officials not taking these reports or concerns seriously or swept under a rug and forgotten.

Some may say they aren’t in the animal business — but the truth is, they are. Stray overpopulation is a public health and safety issue that directly affects our communities. Loose and neglected animals impact children, pets, traffic safety, neighborhoods, and quality of life. Addressing those concerns falls under protecting and serving the community — which is exactly what they are responsible for overseeing.

Yotie is still looking for his forever home! 🐾

He was originally scheduled for transport, but after carefully reviewing applications, we realized the matches just weren’t the right fit for him. We refuse to send our animals anywhere unless we truly believe they are going to the best possible home with the right adopters. Yotie deserves that. ❤️

Yotie is currently being fostered in Foxworth, MS. He is neutered, vaccinated, completed heartworm treatment back in April, and is current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Yotie absolutely loves the outdoors. He enjoys playing, exploring, and belly crawling through the grass. He’s curious about cats but does not bother them unless they run or act aggressively toward him. He will chase chickens, but has shown no interest in goats or pigs.

He wants so badly to play with our other foster dogs, but he’s much bigger and has a lot more energy than my smaller senior crew. We truly believe he would thrive with another medium to large dog that enjoys playing, or in a farm-style home with plenty of space to run, explore, and “work.”

Yotie is such a fun, active boy with a big personality and so much love to give. He just needs the right people willing to give him the life he deserves.

Please share to help us find Yotie his perfect forever family! 🐶

🌧️ It’s RAINING KITTENS! 🐾

Kitty season is officially here and they are being distributed hot and heavy right now! 😅🐱

We have 5 more kittens coming into our care Monday and we are urgently needing a temporary foster home while they get vetted, vaccinated, and ready to be altered.

Fostering truly saves lives. We provide the medical care — you provide a safe place, love, and a little patience while they prepare for their forever homes. 💕

Even a short-term foster makes a HUGE difference and helps us continue saying “yes” to animals in need.

If you can help, please message our page! 🐾

Not animal related (well, not animal rescue related 😄) but community support is something that means a lot to us too!

Tomorrow at 2 PM 🕑 take the kiddos by the Library in Columbia , MS and check out their special dinosaur guest! 🦖 Maybe make a fun afternoon out of it — visit the park and grab some ice cream from one of our local shops while you’re out supporting our community.

We plan on promoting local businesses and entrepreneurs in the area- so if there is something you’d like us to share about your business, let us know!
