THIS! 🙁

Hi everyone,
We are unable to take in any animals now. It is the first time in Animal Education and Rescue history that we are completely shut down, as far as intake goes.

Adoptions are low, we have few kittens left in our care and the ones we have are not ready to get adopted. Kittens are the majority of animals that seem to find homes these days. For every 10 felines that get adopted, nine of them are kittens. I am not exaggerating. Actually, it may be even more like 20 to one.

I cannot even remember the last time a rabbit was adopted out. They stay with us for literally years…many of them dying of old age in their foster homes.

I have less foster homes than I’ve ever had. The orphanage is full and the few amazing foster families we have currently have multiple foster animals in their houses and they too are full.

Here’s the thing though, I won’t settle for homes that aren’t appropriate for the animals we have. I know that if we do it is likely the animals will get returned at some point. Then if we can’t take them back they’ll end up what will happen to them. We won’t sacrifice the integrity of finding good matches for the animals that we have no matter our desperate situation.

Foster families are amazing when they jive with our organization. They have to have the same belief system, common sense and values that we have. They have to be committed for the long haul regardless of what challenges they might face. This is a very difficult human to find. Once again, I won’t settle for anything less because it is too stressful on us to deal with people that are difficult, give up or don’t see eye-to-eye with our practices or methods.

Meanwhile, we continue to get calls every single day asking us to take in (mostly) cats. Nikki received three calls today from people who didn’t want their cats anymore for one reason or another. Two of those people hung up on her when she said we couldn’t help. We understand their frustration believe me. But taking out it out on people in the trenches only creates more stress for everyone.

Anyway, I wanted to inform you so you don’t refer people to us to take in animals right now. Secondly, I know many of you are praying kind of people. All of you are a loving kind of people. 🥰 We need your support more than ever and your prayers for us and for all rescue groups and shelters that are struggling everywhere.

Thank you❤️

Gotta love the name Miss Tina Tuna!!

Hello all, Miss Tina Tuna repawting from New Zealand -

Some of you first met me when I was rescued and fostering with Linda and Mr D (Gina Ginger Knickers servants) and their clowder.
I liked it there, it was warm and safe, but there were so many kitties, and I'm an "only cat" kind of girl.

Meowmy's kitty, Dotti, had crossed the Rainbow Bridge in February after a long, long life.
Meowmy was very sad and lonely and saw me on the book of faces.
Bear in mind that Meowmy lived within a kilometer of the SPCA where there were many kitties needing a home, but she fell in love with ME!

So Meowmy reached out to Linda and arranged to meet me and have a trial to see if we liked each other.
She drove 70 km and it was love at first sight.
There would be no trial, it was fated!
As Gina would say, I landed with my bum in the butter!

I was so good on the drive to my new home, I didn't have any accidents and didn't talk all the way, I just gazed at my new Meowmy.

She had set up my room with all amenities and noms and toys.
I was a bit shy and hid under the bed for the first day.
Meowmy decided to sleep in my room that night, so I didn't feel too lonely in a strange place.
At 5am I woked her up with the best back rub I could do and made lots of biscuits on her shoulders.
She had passed muster!

I was allowed the whole house from that day on.
Meowmy said I couldn't go outside as the roads were very busy and it wasn't safe for me, but I could see some other kitties out there!
There was one who came to visit, I didn't like him and told him it's my house now. He just visited at the door then.

As I settled in, I let my naughty side out.
Meowmy has fluffy blankets an' I lubs them, I makes biscuits on them and sleeps on her legs on them.
I let's her sleep on my bed, she has the sides an' I has the middle.

There are lots of toys an' I like to hide them under the big things so Meowmy has to use her walking stick to scoop them out.
It's so funny to watch an' I puts them all back😸

Part 2 to come😽

It’s hard to fathom that the flea a season could get any worse .. a reminder that protecting your INDOOR pets is important too.

Tidbit is the lone survivor from the 3 kittens we took in on Sunday, who had the worst flea infestation we have seen yet. The anemia battle was too far gone to reverse with his two siblings, and they sadly perished in our arms. Upper respiratory infections, calicivirus, and panleukopenia are definitely the top three killers in kittens, however, there is indication of this being one of the worst flea seasons we have ever seen, so we want everybody to be mindful that finds kittens covered in fleas. It is a terrible way to go. Thank you for your support, and we have Tidbit in the best of hands right now.❤️
