5-Year-Old OTTB | Big, Handsome, Athletic & Incredibly Willing
If I had the money and space for another horse right now, Heat Lightning would be coming home with me. I would keep him in my lesson program, continue training him, and eventually take him into competition myself.
That’s how much I believe in this horse.
Heat Lightning is a 5-year-old OTTB with the kind of personality that makes you fall in love with him. He is cuddly, curious, affectionate, and completely in-your-pocket. He LOVES treats and attention and is happiest when he’s included in whatever adventure is happening.
He’s the horse that says, “What are we doing? Can I come too?” ❤️
And underneath that incredible personality is a very athletic, versatile, willing horse who is ready for his next chapter.
🏇 Under saddle:
• Very willing and eager to please
• Has speed when asked
• Can be a little lazy at times 😂
• Happy to go in virtually any direction you want to take him
• Has the athleticism and versatility to pursue multiple disciplines and riding styles
• Not spooky — he is extremely curious and wants to investigate things
• Has been transitioning from racehorse life into being a regular riding horse and has handled the change beautifully
👧🏼 Kid tested:
All 3 of my teenage children have ridden Heat Lightning, as well as one of my teenage riding students.
That includes:
• 2 intermediate/advanced riders
• 1 more advanced beginner
• 1 very new beginner
And this horse has been absolutely amazing with every single one of them.
They have been allowed to ride him, handle him, and do all kinds of things with him, and he has consistently been willing, patient, and accepting.

• Stands for the farrier
• Good with his feet
• Good in cross ties
• Good in trailer ties
• Good for the vet
• Easy to handle
• Loves attention
• Curious rather than spooky

He has the size, presence, athletic ability, personality, and willingness to become an absolutely phenomenal partner for the right person.
Whether you want to take him in a competitive direction, develop him into a versatile all-around horse, hit the trails, pursue a specific discipline, or simply have a big, gorgeous best friend to do life with — Heat Lightning has the potential to be that horse.
He is not finished, and I’m not going to pretend he is. He is a young OTTB who is still developing his education and figuring out his new life outside the track.
But that is also what makes him so exciting.
He is a blank canvas with an incredible foundation, an exceptional personality, and the willingness to learn.
He is ready to become someone’s horse.
