We have been asked a lot lately if we harvest propolis. We do not. But let me explain what it is. Propolis is a resinous, waxy substance that bees create by mixing their saliva with beeswax, along with compounds from various plants and trees. Bees use it to seal gaps in the hive. Propolis also has antimicrobial properties and protects bees from pathogens.

Early mornings in the bee yards. We are trying to beat the heat. Finally got a little rain, so a few flowers are starting to bloom.

Looking through comb. No frame, this is how the bees build it without a frame. You can see that the octagon on one side is built in the middle of the one on the other side. Bees are amazing!!! The yellow is pollen. The gold is honey. White is the beeswax.
