He was adopted as a young pup, but then surrendered for being "too rambunctious" and "untrainable". Lucky for Hitch, an experienced dog pro pulled Hitch from the shelter and brought him to a savvy obedience seminar where Hitch then met a search and rescue trainer from Fort Worth, Texas. It was clear that Hitch had the drive and potential to make an amazing companion. He was then entered into the 2
011 Extreme Mutt Makeover as the first of his kind (Pit Bull Terrier) to compete. In the audience at the "Trainer Draw" was Rachel Cope, a young Pit Bull advocate that knew exactly which mutt she wanted to train and foster for 8 weeks before competing in obedience, agility/rally and freestyle. Most importantly, she knew which mutt she wanted to help find a forever home. Once she was finally united with this energetic 50 something pound dog, her training and hard work began! Rachel and Hitch bonded instantly and though many people doubted just how well she'd be able to calm them hyper dog down, the team was able to win first place in obedience and 3rd in the overall event out of 14 other trainers. Therefore, Rachel adopted him, continued to train and socialize him and almost a year later... found him the PERFECT home with a graduate student with the energy and charisma to love and care for Hitch. He now has his own side of a king size bed, his own couch and a pool! He also has a Heeler mix sister named Lacy and always has the company of others. His new mom Erin is a responsible pet parent and continues to allow Hitch to be an Ambassador for his breed. She exercises, trains and socializes him. Hitch will always be loved!!!!
