Good morning everyone! Great news! Both Chase and Shena made it through the night. Our staff is busy this morning preparing their food for the day. We are incredibly happy to report that both have good appetites and attitudes.
After our post yesterday evening when these two sorry souls arrived, we had some negative comments asking why we didn’t simply euthanize both these horses and use the resources to bring in others.
Well.... This is why!! When horses have such a strong will to live and a good and thankful appetite, who are we to say that their suffering should end? To be clear, we are not against euthanasia in certain circumstances. But this is not one of those times!! What has been done to these horses is not a disease process or an irreversible condition. Our success rate bringing horses like this back has been 100%. We have given many horses a good and productive life after others have wrote them off.
If there was a situation where an animal’s suffering became too great and irreversible, then yes, we would consider a peaceful ending. Let us strongly assure you, this is not that time.
We sincerely thank every person who has given to help these emaciated horses!! We rest easy knowing that you care! We do not say it lightly when we say that this is also your journey. Each person who donates, volunteers, adopts, sponsors, prays, shares our posts or follows our page, shares in the success of the work that we do!
God bless each and every one of you!!!

Feed Donation: Gifts of feed or hay can be purchased through Fort White Farm and Feed in Fort White, Fl at 386-497-1366
AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: FLICKA
Flicka is a stunning 15 - 16 year old Quarter Horse. She is approximately 15 hands but is built like a tank! This quality horse would be well suited for just about anyone but would be great with a larger taller rider who would be very comfortable on her. She is an absolute sweetheart and more than willing to walk away from a group of horses to stay with her person.
This lovely horse was donated to our Organization to help us to raise funds that are desperately needed at the moment. Flicka has never faced hardship and was well loved by her owner,Buddy Crews of Fort White Farm and Feed. Because Flicka and two others were no longer being used by Buddy’s family, the decision was made to donate the three to help find them a home and a purpose.
If you or someone you know is considering buying a horse, please consider adopting, sponsoring or fostering a horse in need.
And remember to ALWAYS do your part and share our posts to help horses in need find their forever homes and be sure to FOLLOW OUR PAGE so that you can watch the progress as horses are rescued, rehabbed, retrained and adopted!!

We drive past this place all of the time and have been wanting to stop and after acquiring two new turkeys for our small farm we needed some feed and we stopped by as they were locking the doors for the evening. They stayed a few minutes to help us even loaded the feed up incredible people and incredible place customers for life.
60+ That is the number of mouths that we now feed!! We are very happy to say that with recent adoptions, our numbers are down from our recent highs after taking in 22 emaciated souls Thanksgiving week.
We were fortunate to have been gifted 30 Round bales recently. That one gift fed all of our pasture horses for one month. One round bale of costal hay comes at a cost of $55.00. At this time when the grasses go dormant, round bales are an absolute necessity for horses who are used to grazing. Of these horses, some are recent intakes who need time to decompress and begin to shed some of the horrors burned into their psyches. Others, carry anxiety from living a feral existence, some are patiently waiting for health or hoof issues to heal, some are retirees who’s joints need consistent movement in order to remain comfortable. Some just prefer wide open spaces to stall life.
All need a healthy diet rich in nutrients and roughage.
Please consider a gift of hay to help us provide the best possible care to our pasture and stalled horses during this season.
A $50.00 gift will purchase one of the 30 round bales that we use in a months time. $22.00 will purchase 1 square bale of rich alfalfa hay and only $6.50 will purchase 1 square bale of costal hay. We are also always in need of alfalfa cubes to make a mash for new intakes with digestive problems stemming from chronic malnutrition or seniors who struggle with typical hays.
You can purchase hay over the phone from our feed supplier, Fort White Farm and Feed and it will be delivered with our regular shipment. If you choose to make a cash donation, please let us know that your gift is intended for the purchase of hay.
Together, we can change the future for horses in need!!!

We must remember.
It’s been a year since the call came that there were several horses in need. The first two were horrifying. Emaciated, neglected beyond belief. Then there were more. Each one seemed worse than the ones before. In the end, 19 weary souls entered our lives. Each burned an imprint so deep in our hearts that we are forever changed. These were the horses of The Boneyard.
Rain was one of those souls. Barely alive, she fought. Well beyond the point that most horses would have succumbed, she tried. She tried to walk. Her strength was gone. She tried to stand, Her legs wouldn’t hold her. She tried to hold on for just another hour. Her body was shutting down. Still, she tried.
As her rescuers, we were just as determined as Rain. Never had anyone seen such cruelty. Such utter disregard for an innocent life. A life entirely dependent on those who had committed to provide for her. Shock and great sadness turned to resolve to right a wrong that had been inflicted upon Rain and the other 18 starved horses. Rain was ready to fight for her life and we, the staff and volunteers at Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization were ready to fight for her.
Day after day the battle went on. Rain’s body grew more weary. We persevered. Warnings came of disappointment ahead. We fought against the words that we should expect to lose Rain Eddie and a few of the others. Failure was not an option. Each time Rain went down, we helped her to her feet. Even when too weak to stand, she ate. Still fighting for a chance to be whole again. Rain didn’t give up. We wouldn’t give up on her either.
Days became weeks and weeks became months. Rain grew stronger. A sleek shiny coat replaced her fungus infected, bleached and lifeless hair. Muscle covered the areas where only sharp protruding bone had been. Healthy hooves grew where rotted and broken soles were the only thing left to stand on. Deep furrows that outlined a barely covered skull were replace by the gentle curvature of a beautiful head that could only have been fashioned by God himself.
Then there was her eye. The eye that showed the pain of not only her journey, but the plight of thousands of other horses mistreated, neglected and abused. The eye that looked for something or someone to save her. Her eye, that was dry from dehydration, Infected, covered in flies, dull and lifeless, now shines bright. Her eye reflects back the kindness shown in recent times. It glimmers with light and hope. Hope that replaces all traces of the cruelty once inflicted upon her. Her eye reflects the image that she sees. Be it kindness or hatred, her eye truly was the window into her pain and then her healing.
It is the hope of those of us who have invested heart and soul into this mare and many others, that their eyes will never again see the horrors of the past. That they will gaze upon the same kindness and mercy that we ourselves, hope to be treated with.
Horses Without Humans Rescue Organization is committed to helping as many horses as possible. First by providing a soft landing, then shelter, food, physical, and mental rehabilitation, veterinary care, farrier services, dental work and finally training for horses who have experienced traumatic events, been neglected, abused, deserted, unwanted or in some other way been let down by those entrusted with their care.
Together with a staff of committed Professional Trainers and an army of volunteers, Horses Without Humans evaluates, trains and places each horse with suitable adopters to insure that they will never end up in harms way again. We must and we will remember!!
Rain and the other 18 are all thriving, most of the others are adopted and living in loving homes, but there are many more that need our help. Rain continues to wait for her person. She is started under saddle and will make a lovely mount for someone. She is now just five.
There are always more horses to save. We now have The Lucky Ones. A herd of 23 that arrived in May from an illegal slaughter facility in southern Florida. Some in foal, all in need. All nearly lost their lives to unspeakable violence. There are always more...... We have up to 50 horses at a time. Each of them has a story to tell.
What can you do to help? Every person carries a responsibility to help right the wrongs of the past. To protect and help care for those with no voice of their own. To create a society that cares for every animal that does not have the ability to care for themselves. Change begins with one. One person. One decision to be a part of the solution. To see and not turn away from a problem that can be fixed. The problem of unwanted horses In the United States can be solved. Please consider doing something, ANYTHING to help.
Will you consider giving your support to enable us to rescue, care and train horses like Rain and others who are awaiting adoption. We have a way and a price point to suit every desire. No gift is too big or too small. If you are in the market for a new partner, adoption is an option!! Call us today!!!
Will help us change the future for animals in need?
Sharing this post helps reach others who can unite with us and make the kind of difference that needs to be made. That alone is a help!
