No one takes spooky season as seriously as the banded mongoOoOooOOoses 👻🎃
..except for maybe their Zoo Keepers, who gave the mongooses some fun and spooky enrichment! Inside each pumpkin were mealworms for these tiny, but mighty, mammals to munch on.

Happy National Veterinary Technician Week to our amazing Zoo registered veterinary technicians! 💙🐾🦓

Although their work often takes place behind-the-scenes, their impact is felt throughout the Zoo and our community. From the smallest patient to the largest resident, the care, compassion, and comfort our Zoo vet techs provide to the animals who depend on them is unmatched. Help us thank them for the time and talents dedicated towards delivering the best care possible to all 1,500 animals here at the Fort Wayne Zoo!

The Fort Wayne Zoo is honored to receive recognition for our involvement in the Help the Hellbender Project! At the 2026 Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon, the Zoo received Significant Achievement for the 2026 North American Conservation Award.

To create a brighter future for our rivers, the Zoo joined Purdue University and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to form the Help the Hellbender Program, in which hellbenders are hatched and raised in professional care until they are large enough to be released into their natural environment. To date, the Zoo has participated in releasing over 200 hellbenders back into the Blue River in southern Indiana. We are honored to be recognized for this program, which plays a pivotal role in inspiring people to care about the eastern hellbender and their ongoing conservation efforts.
