⚠ Why do we recommend yearly Heartworm Testing if your pet is on monthly prevention? Here’s why:

✔️ Missed or late doses – Even one late or skipped dose can leave your pet unprotected.
✔️ Spit up or vomit – Sometimes pets don’t fully swallow or absorb the medication.
✔️ Product failure is rare, but possible – No medication is 100%.
✔️ Early detection saves lives – Heartworm disease can be devastating, but catching it early makes treatment safer and more effective.

Think of testing as a safety net 💉— it ensures your pet’s prevention is working and keeps them healthy for years to come.

⚠️ In today's world, just a click of a button can quickly connect us to thousands of people, ideas and information. But not everything you see online is true, or even accurate for that matter. This is why listening to "influencers" about your pet's health can be dangerous (especially when these people have no medical background). Relying on influencers for information regarding your pet's health instead of a veterinary professional can put your pet at serious risk, and here's why ⬇:

🐶 Online advice has a tendency to be "generalized" and not tailored to your pet's specific needs
🐱 Some "natural" and "home remedies" can actually be toxic. That's why it's important to have guidance from a veterinary professional to help you if this is the route you'd prefer to go.
🐶 If your pet suffers from an illness and is already on medications and you're "influenced" to try something you saw online, it has the potential to interact with current medications, or make your pet's condition worse.
🐱 Avoiding veterinary care and relying on online advice can delay treatment and make your pet's condition/illness worse when it could have been avoided

Your pet's health is too important to take advice from unverified sources. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding your pet's health, or are interested in a product you saw online - please, give us a call. It's why we're here!

🚨 Pet Poison Alert: What to Do if Your Pet Eats Something Toxic 🚨

If your dog or cat swallows something they shouldn’t — don’t wait for symptoms.
Toxins can cause serious illness or even be life-threatening within hours. And, some toxins can actually cause more harm coming back up than staying in the stomach, which is why vets sometimes say “Do NOT induce vomiting” in certain cases.

🦎 Chameleon's are considered a high-maintenance reptile requiring very specialized care. Here are a few reasons why ⬇:

🧪 1. Precise Environmental Needs: Humidity, temperature, and lighting must be tightly controlled. They need UVB lighting for calcium absorption and bone health. Improper setup can quickly lead to illness or death.

🥵 2. Stress-Prone: Chameleons get easily stressed by excess handling, loud noises, inadequate enclosures, and being around other chameleon. Stress can lead to health decline, loss of appetite, and shortened lifespan.

🍽️ 3. Special Diet: Require a varied diet of live insects (crickets, roaches, worms). Insects must be gut-loaded and calcium/vitamin dusted. They also won’t drink from water bowls— they need misting or drip systems to stay hydrated.

🧠 4. Solitary, Not Social: They don’t like being handled or interacting with humans. Keeping more than one chameleon together can cause territorial aggression.

🏥 5. Vet Care Can Be Tricky: Early signs of illness are subtle and easy to miss for new keepers, which can lead to costly vet bills.

🛠️ 6. Setup Is Complex: Need a tall, well-ventilated enclosure with real or fake plants, vines, and branches. Requires frequent misting, either manually or with a misting system.

🐾 Meet Bubba! 🐾

Everyone, say hello to Bubba, our sweet new golden retriever friend who stopped by for a visit! 💛 His gentle eyes, wagging tail, and endless charm won us over in seconds.

Golden retrievers are one of the most beloved breeds in the world — and it’s easy to see why! Here are some fun facts about them:

✨ Friendly & Social: Goldens are known for their affectionate and gentle nature, making them wonderful family companions.
✨ Smart Cookies: They’re highly intelligent and quick to learn, which is why they excel as therapy, guide, and search-and-rescue dogs.
✨ Born to Fetch: Originally bred in Scotland for retrieving game, they love to play fetch.
✨ Water Lovers: With their water-resistant coats and strong swimming skills, they’re natural-born swimmers.
✨ Forever Puppies at Heart: Even as they grow, goldens keep their playful, happy spirit for life.

We loved spending time with Bubba today — and we think you’ll agree, he’s golden inside and out! 🐶💛

🦎 We had the pleasure of meeting Squiggles the other day, an Argentine Tegu! He may be large, but he was very sweet and did great for his exam with Dr. Parker! Argentine Tegu's are large, intelligent, and often docile lizards. They require specialized care and are recommended for only experienced reptile keepers. Here are some fun facts about these special lizards:

Lifespan: 15-20 years (with proper care)
Length: 3-5 feet long with some males measuring longer
Weight: 10-20 lbs
Diet: lean meats, rodents, vegetables, blueberries, crickets, roaches
Enclosure: they need a very large space, their own bedroom in the house is ideal! They also require UVB lighting and high humidity.

Before purchasing any exotic or reptile pet, it's important to do your research to make sure you can provide the care they require. Squiggles is very well taken care of, and maybe just a little spoiled (as he should be!)🙂.

Our Story

Welcome To Aboite Animal Hospital! Aboite Animal Hospital, Ltd. is a small animal/exotic veterinary hospital. Over the past four decades, we have developed a reputation as a veterinary hospital which serves our community with the utmost honesty, integrity and compassion. Dr. Dan Rodgers founded Aboite Animal Hospital in 1973 after graduating from Purdue University. The hospital was originally located in Times Corners, and then moved to its current location in 1995. After 47 years of practice, Dr. Rodgers retired in January 2018. He was well known for his kindness and compassion towards animals, as well as their owners.

Dr. Brian Koesters and Dr. Bill Chastain, along with their partner Dr. Jamie Stover, bought the practice from Dr. Rodgers, and are going to continue the quality care that Aboite Animal Hospital is known for. Together, they own Summit Veterinary Associates, which consists of 3 hospitals: Animal Hospital of Syracuse, Cedar Creek Veterinary Clinic, and Aboite Animal Hospital. Dr. Koesters and Dr. Chastain are both graduates of the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine, and Dr. Linda Parker graduated from Ross University after completing her clinical training at Oklahoma State University. Dr. Nicole Koch also graduated from Ross University, and completed her clinical training at Purdue University. They are in turn supported by an exceptional team of registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and reception staff. Our goal is to maintain the highest standards of veterinary medicine. Having been certified by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) since 1996, Aboite Animal Hospital continues to meet its changing high standards. In April of 2016, we became certified as a Feline Friendly Practice, meaning we have and will continue to find ways to ease the stress on cats while traveling to our hospital and while receiving care at our hospital. We strive to keep up with latest breakthroughs in veterinary medicine, and will continue to offer the hightest quality care to our patients.
