We would like to introduce you to Lola, she is a precious German shepherd that came in this weekend for having a bloated stomach. We immediately jumped into action to confirm our suspicions of a GDV (gastric dilation and volvulus) which is where the stomach flips. This causes gas build up, retching, and cuts off blood supply. In more advanced cases it can cause collapse, lethargy, and pale gums.

Due to the fact that the owners immediately recognized the signs and got her to us, she had a fantastic recovery.

Deep chested breeds are the most likely to be affected such as German Shepherds, Great Danes, Standard Poodles, Doodles, St. Bernards, Doberman Pinschers, etc. A procedure can be performed to decrease the chances of this happening called a gastropexy that can be done during spay/neuter procedures or other surgical procedures.

If you suspect you dog has this condition seek immediate veterinary care.

This beautiful giant is Duchess, a 1 year old Maine C**n cat that had trouble giving birth to her first litter. She had delivered one kitten during the day but it had been many hours since then with no progress. The owners made the right decision bringing her in to us for a c-section.

If an animal is having difficulty giving birth it can become fatal to the babies and potentially the mom. The babies can pass away and cause the mom to die of sepsis if a c-section isn't done fast enough. One way to prevent the costly need for a c-section or danger to your pet is to get your female pets spayed, if they are not intended for breeding purposes. If you have a breeding animal it is important to have regular check ups during the pregnancy and discuss with your veterinarian the risk/complication chances for that breed.

Thankfully Duchess had an owner who was on top of her pregnancy and rushed her in to us. She went home this morning with 7 happy, healthy babies.

Meet Hocus, a beautiful 3 year old cat that came in for limping on her back leg. We took xrays to evaluate her hind legs and found that she had a fracture in her tibia and fibula (bones between their knee and ankle). The bones were aligned well enough to heal with just a splint :). She was sedated, splinted, and sent home on pain meds. She will be comfortable at home to enjoy the holiday with her family.

Tommy is the most precious Sphinx cat! He came in tonight for vomiting multiple times. His owner was worried he might have ingested something that could cause an obstruction. Thankfully we did not see any evidence of that on his xrays and sent him home on symptomatic treatment.

It is uncommon for cats to vomit over and over like that so it was good that his owner brought him in to be safe. Cats are bad about eating strings and other small objects that can cause dangerous onstructions.

We are happy he is doing well and got to go home tonight.
