Ben has been on the adoption floor for over a month now and he’s been totally overlooked. Maybe because he’s 4 years old with a brindle coat and has been labeled a “pit bull”.
Surprisingly enough a lot of people think four years is too old and they tend to not choose darker colored dogs, especially ones with a brindle coat.

Ben is delightfully vibrant and youthful, almost puppy like. He’s potty trained, loves savoring his frozen Kongs and playing fence to fence with every dog he meets. If you have a playful female, Ben might just be a compatible match.

Remember the look on the face of your 7th grade math teacher when you told her “the dog ate my homework”? We’re sure she didn’t buy that excuse and neither would shelter dog Cinnamon.

Despite her stern looking expression Cinnamon is the absolute best girl. She’s the real deal; potty trained, well mannered, perfect on leash and maybe even smarter than your 7th grade math teacher!

So no excuses, come to the shelter, fill out an application and ask to meet Cinnamon!

UPDATE: Ivy adopted.

River(male) and Ivy are new to the adoption floor or so we thought, apparently they were also here in 2023. As we were trying to piece together their story we ran across this post from their finder:

“Calling on all my animal lovers. I captured these 2 beautiful girls found roaming the streets. I gave them food, water, and shelter until LCDAS were able to pick them up Saturday evening. With it being a holiday weekend, I was unable to get an update until this morning. Their POS owners decided to surrender them once contacted. This means they intentionally removed their collars and willingly put them on the streets to fend for themselves. They had looked to be well groomed and had collar indents on their necks which told me they had owners. LCDAS said they are spayed, young, and will be checked out by their vet. Provided they are healthy, have no behavioral issues and can be placed safely in a home, they will be available for adoption. I call upon all those who love dogs and can help to please consider these babies. Here are their pictures. 🙏🙏🙏

UPDATE: Ivy and River have been cleared and have made their debut on the adoption floor. 🙏. Wishing them a future with love and kindness ❤️”

We’re so grateful to this kind and caring person for keeping them safe. We will get more photos of them, socialize with them and do our best to promote them in hopes that they find a loving home with a responsible owner.

Daisy was originally at LCDAS with her Mom and siblings back in June 2016. Mom and all the pups went to Gulf Coast Humane Society and were adopted. Now 9 years later Daisy finds herself back where she first began; in an animal shelter 😞.
Her owner unfortunately is experiencing some housing issues and had to surrender her.

Daisy has been with a wonderful family as a Weekend Warrior and they say she’s good with cats, dogs, is potty trained and very easy going and relaxed in a home setting. She is thought a bit of a puller on leash.

In a recent post we talked about the importance of community involvement, encouraging everyone in our community to consider adopting, fostering, volunteering or donating. All these things make a difference for shelter pets!

The Sewing Pelicans of Pelican Preserve have been making a difference for years by making cat den pads for the cats here at LCDAS.
Adoptable kitten Sally spends napping time in her den and thanks to this group she feels cozy and comfortable.

This pup-date is a little different than most. When we post an update on a dog adopted from LCDAS, it usually comes from the adopter. Gretel's story, though ending happily, is a bit more complicated.

We got to know Gretel back in 2021. She was brought to LCDAS by a good samaritan whose family she'd approached as a stray. The finders loved her, but could not adopt her. They did, however, come to visit her at the shelter, and hoped she'd find an amazing home.

After a few months, Gretel was adopted, but it was, ultimately, short-lived. Thankfully, a rescue then stepped in, and Gretel ended up with a foster family who absolutely adored her. They gave her the new name Stormi to go with her new beginning.

Stormi blossomed and shined in her foster home. Her fosters did absolutely everything they could for her until finally finding her perfect forever home, where she's been happily living for quite some time. She's beyond loved and cherished as a member of the family.

We love this story, not only because Gretel/Stormi finally ended up with the life she deserved all along, but also because it highlights the importance of coming together as a community to help support homeless pets. If not for the care and commitment of her finders, her rescue, her foster family, and her forever adopters, Gretel/Stormi's story might have been very different.

On this page, we hope to always encourage our community to come together and support our homeless pets in all the different ways that make stories like this possible. Volunteer, foster, adopt, donate, share posts. Do any small thing you can, because it all makes a difference. ❤️

Cinnamon is now our longest stay resident here at LCDAS. She’s been without a home for 2 months, way too long for such a good dog.

One of our volunteers recently checked her out as a Weekend Warrior and she said that Cinnamon is the best dog ever- potty trained, rides well in the car and walks perfectly on leash.
As with all dogs here at the shelter if you have another dog we always recommend bringing them in for a meet and greet.
We don’t know how Cinnamon does with 🐈’s.
Please stop by on Tuesday and ask to meet Cinnamon!
