We’re hearing good things about Janice our little ball of energy. This is what The Dog Wizard of Fort Myers has to say about her progress:

“We recently welcomed this sweet girl after she found herself at LCDAS. To give her the best chance at finding her perfect forever family, Janice is currently enrolled in a Board & Train program with The Dog Wizard.

During her training, Janice will be working on building confidence, learning good manners, and becoming the very best version of herself. We can’t wait to watch her progress and share her journey with all of you!

Once Janice completes her training, she’ll return to the adoption floor at Lee County Domestic Animal Services and be ready to meet her future family. Even better, her adoption will include lifetime training support from The Dog Wizard to help set her and her adopters up for success.

This is our way of giving back to the community we love so much.

Stay tuned for updates, photos, and training milestones as Janice works her way toward her happily ever after! ❤️🐶”

We also hear that she absolutely loves doggie play groups! So as we’ve said before she would do well with another higher energy companion.
Follow the Dog Wizard FB page for updates on Janice!

Minnie is rather new to the adoption floor and we think she’s one in a melon 🍉!

She’s a Lady- very quiet and well behaved in her kennel and one of the first dogs we let out when we arrive because we feel she’s house trained. She’s very polite and tolerant with other dogs but initially a bit aloof with humans. Give her time and she’ll be your shadow and loyal companion.

Please consider giving our sweet girl a forever home!

UPDATE: Adopted!

When we open Shelby’s cat condo she comes bounding out of her cube and out into the room, stands there for a moment looking around at the other cats as if to say “age before/and beauty”! She’s 11 years old, pleasantly pump and beautiful!

If you adopt her you might have to invest in a cat tree, her favorite place to nap and observe her Queendom 👑.

She’s available for adoption at

Julie recently spent a week away from the shelter as a Weekend Warrior. The nice gentleman that took her confirmed what we already knew, she’s a very busy girl that needs a fenced yard to burn off all her energy(he lives in a condo).

She was 6 months old when she arrived on the adoption floor and unfortunately we’re seeing her grow up in the kennel environment.

Her host family said “ she’s a loving dog that will take all the attention you can give her. She eats like a horse 😅.” He let her sample hamburger, chicken, hard-boiled eggs, broccoli, cauliflower and rice among other things and she didn’t turn up her nose to any of it. He also said she’s not completely house trained. We feel that being in a home with another playful dog would be ideal.

We love her spirit, athleticism and most of all her ♥️.

If you think she might fit your lifestyle then come to the shelter and ask to meet Julie!

UPDATE: Jada, Luna and Rocky adopted!
Thank you for caring and sharing!

We need your help. We currently have 4 very adoptable huskies on the adoption floor and we’re seeing that there are now 4 more in the stray hold area.

I guess as volunteers we wonder why people are buying, breeding them only to have them end up in the County shelter. Are they buying them as cute puppies only to find out that they don’t have the time or knowledge to live with a very busy dog breed so they cast them aside?

As we’ve come to know they’re a very special, unique, beautiful and affectionate breed and we hate the fact that despite our efforts to keep them physically and mentally stimulated they’re still stuck in a kennel but surprisingly they’re all very patient except for the occasional husky chatter.

If you know and love the breed please stop by today and meet Rocky, Jada, Yukon and Luna and please share this post.

We are so grateful for donations that are dropped off at LCDAS. Volunteer Diane sorts through the items and makes sure other organizations get what we can’t use for the animals in our care. One of those groups is St. Peter Lutheran Church on Fort Myers Beach.

They use pillow cases to sew🧵 colorful dresses for girls and shorts for boys. They then send them to places like Africa, Haiti, Cuba and even Appalachia.

We’re betting you didn’t realize your donations were not only benefiting the homeless pets of Lee County but children throughout the world 🌎.

Thank you St. Peter’s for your sewing group and their compassion and kindness for those in need.
