We encourage participation and hope you will help make this a constructive forum focused on helping the Friends of Lee County Domestic Animal Services and the

Remember that heartwarming photo of Chula’s Freedom ride? Well that image and her story got over 3,000 “likes”!

Fast forward a week and now Chula has a new name, Belli Blue(Beebee), a favorite color 🌸, a pair of jammies and her very own lammie!
Disney couldn’t have created a happier ending 💖.

When Junie arrived on the adoption floor she was very meek, timid and likely overwhelmed by the noisy shelter environment. Thankfully she was adopted by a nice family and this is a recent update we received:

“When our 11.5 year old dog passed away in February we were heartbroken. We weren’t sure we were ready to adopt, but told ourselves we would go to the shelter to “dip our toes in the water” and see how we felt when we saw some of the animals.

We instantly fell in love will a 7 year old staffy mix , formerly known as gentle Junie.

Say hello to Cassie Cain! We are DC comic fans and that’s Batgirl’s real name in the comics. I have never met a more affectionate and loving dog in all my life. She is the sweetest! We are still grieving the loss of our dog but she has made it possible for us to feel love again with her constant cuddles and kisses. And we just adore her and we are so happy she is our new buddy.

The 3-3-3 rule is still happening. First three days she would sit by the front door, but after a few really good decompression sleeps she started trusting us more. She’s been home with us for a month now and she’s really thriving. She loves to just sleep and cuddle on all the couches & beds, she has her own “dog couch” as well. She is perfectly content with just giving kisses and being pet all day long. Still has very little interest in toys but loves cheese and cheese flavored treats as well as pup cups. She did have the zoomies for the first time last week which was adorable to watch because that meant she trusted us enough to let her guard down and play. She’s terrified of thunder and rain storms and doesn’t like to go outside to potty at night in the dark . Her tail is still tucked in at times but it’s up wagging more and more each day. She has her heartworm procedures at LCDAS in the end of September and we are all a little anxious about it but look forward to getting her healthy.

Thank you again for helping us find the perfect pet for our family. Cassie is settling in very nicely and continuing to be opening up more and more each day.”

Tiki is now our longest stay resident arriving on July 5th. Her original intake photo shows her sitting in the passenger side of the ACO’s van smiling directly at the camera. We’re guessing the officer opened the door and she jumped right in.

Once on the floor we noticed that she would always go to the fence looking out into the parking lot looking for her owner, and by the way her owner knows she’s here but just hasn’t claimed her 😔.

She’s been a very good girl during her time here at the shelter. She keeps keeps her kennel clean and sticks to a routine of going outside and then getting a frozen treat. She’s been agreeable with the other dogs she’s met here at the shelter. If you have another dog and you’re considering Tiki please bring them along for a meet and greet. We don’t cat test and we have no history of her with kids.

Please stop by the shelter and consider adopting or taking her home as a Weekend Warrior.

Here are some newer dogs to the adoption floor that you may want to come meet tomorrow or Saturday.

The captions are the volunteers opinions about the these dog’s personalities. All were evaluated with another dog 🐕 before being put on the adoption floor. The shelter doesn’t cat 🐈 test. If you have small children and or another dog, we would advise bringing them for a meet and greet with any of the dogs you’re considering.

has made quite the impression on a number of volunteers!
One volunteer says:
“She is the most loving lap cat I have seen in a long time. Instead of exploring she wants to be touching you at all times & petted & loved. If you aren’t touching her she will reach out to pet you.”

𝗟𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘆
is described as gentle, curious and likes making biscuits. Her adoption fee is waived since she was not adopted during the Clear the Shelter event.

We really do like this young husky! She’s very affectionate, is sociable with the other dogs and well behaved in her kennel. She also loves the 💦!
We’re told she has a luxating patella which gives her a rather unusual gait(see video in comments).

UPDATE: Adopted

Benny arrived with a leg injury- we were told it was a “dead leg”, infested with maggots. His leg was amputated and he’s on the road to recovery. He is the absolute sweetest cat that this dog volunteer has ever met!
He’s scheduled to go to a rescue if not adopted today. We’d love for someone to walk in the door TODAY and adopt this sweet boy.

UPDATE: Adopted

Hector may not be a business owner but he could for sure be the shop dog! He’d greet the customers with a big smile and a paw 🐾 shake and if they happened to not be dog fans he’d win them over with his charm and excellent manners.

He’s new to the adoption floor and we love this big headed hunk💙.
