Check out her bio below 👇

Dr. Hills graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2025 and moved to Colorado to begin her career with Animal Clinic LLC. Dr. Hills was born in CO and has deep roots in the state but she spent the majority of her childhood in Michigan with her family's collection of animals including goats, sheep, chickens and horses. Dr. Hills' primary interest is dairy production medicine but she has a strong interest and love for swine and small ruminants. In her spare time Dr. Hills enjoys running and spending time with her family and friends.

Let's talk Coggins testing for horses

TLDR: Plan at least a week ahead to get Coggins results back

You may have heard recently that there were two positive cases of Equine Infectious Anemia (the disease a Coggins test looks for) in Colorado in the month of April. One was identified in Douglas county, the other in Jefferson county.

Because of these cases, there has been an increase in Coggins testing across the state. Due to the increase in horses being tested, please be aware that turnaround time for getting results back from the lab is 3-5 business days. Additionally, some shows and events are requiring a more recent Coggins whereas the results have historically been considered valid for 1 year.

We are asking our clients to take this turnaround time into account and please plan ahead as you make travel and showing plans this Spring and Summer. Thank you!

February is National Equine Dental month!
We will once again be offering a discount on equine dental floats. This year the dental special will run from January 20th-February 28th, 2024.

EQUINE DENTAL HEALTH:
Horses with dental problems may or may not show obvious signs of pain, irritation or discomfort. This is because some horses simply adapt to their discomfort. For this reason, periodic dental examinations performed by your equine veterinarian are essential to your horse’s health. It is important to catch dental problems early and address them before they become severe.
The following are indicators of dental problems from the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) to know when to seek veterinary attention for your horse:
1. Loss of feed from mouth while eating, difficulty with chewing, or excessive salivation.
2. Loss of body condition.
3. Large or undigested feed particles (long stems or whole grain) in manure.
4. Head tilting or tossing, bit chewing, tongue lolling, fighting the bit, or resisting bridling.
5. Poor performance, such as lugging on the bridle, failing to turn or stop, even bucking.
6. Foul odor from mouth or nostrils, or traces of blood from the mouth.
7. Nasal discharge or swelling of the face, jaw or mouth tissues.

Please call today to schedule 303-857-6671. $180 per horse which includes physical and oral exam and sedation for the float.
