"Bella" is an adorable 4 month old Corgi who was diagnosed with a Dermoid. She had a successful surgery when Dr. Robert Sw***er removed it.

Dermoids are overgrowths of non-cancerous, normal skin in the wrong location that arise because of abnormal development of the embryo in utero. The skin may be pigmented, contain sebaceous and sweat glands, fat, and/or grow hair. These growths have been described in multiple species, and while affected animals are born with the condition, it may go unnoticed until the hair grows sufficiently long to become prominent or cause irritation. Any dog breed can be affected, but they occur more frequently in Australian Shepherds, German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniels, Collies, Dachshunds, Dalmatians, English Springer Spaniels, Golden Retrievers, Poodles, Pugs, Pulis, Siberian Huskies, and St. Bernards. Cat breeds more commonly affected include the domestic shorthair and Burmese.

Around the eye, they can occur as abnormal skin growing on the normal skin of the eyelids or face, on the conjunctiva, or on the cornea. They can affect the normal ability to blink, which is required for a healthy cornea, and they can be vision obstructing. In addition to affecting cosmetic appearance, the haired dermoids can be irritating. Clinical signs may include redness, tearing, discharge, and corneal ulceration. Diagnosis can be made with an ophthalmic exam.
Dermoids are typically treated in order to improve cosmesis or when the associated hair causes irritation and clinical signs. Surgical removal is the treatment of choice and is curative. Outcomes are generally good following surgical excision. Perioperative medications may include anti-inflammatories and antibiotics, depending on the location and size of the dermoid.**

I can't think of a better place to bring your baby if there is an eye issue. Everyone makes you and your pet feel like you are the only person in their practice. Dr. P is warm and compassionate, takes the time to explain procedures and outcomes and answer questions. Just want to hug everyone here.
Our Hammy is such a little fighter! Thursday morning he was taken to Animal Eye Guys Fort Lauderdale because of a corneal perforation. It seemed to come out of nowhere and his foster mommy was quite scared! A nictitans flap procedure was performed on Hammy to hopefully save his eye. He will have 3 special eyedrops every 3 hours, antibiotics, and pain meds to avoid help any further infection. Hammy has been hospitalized multiple times due to hepatic encephalopathy from his liver shunt, we are praying our brave, warrior comes through yet another health challenge. Sending out gratitude for all of our amazing vets, compassionate and generous supporters. We couldnโ€™t do it without you! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿถโญ๏ธ #Hammy #compassionatepugrescue #dontshopadopt
Animal Eye Guys are the best! From Mike on the front desk, the CVTs, to Dr. Proietto both Pekibo and I were treated like VIPs. Mike had such a calming manner dealing with my nerves and should be commended for his extra efforts toward your clients.
Everyone has been so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I felt at ease and very assured that Monte was in the best hands possible
Even though it took a longer time to heal, they took into consideration the age of the cat and how it would affect him - patience for proper healing... thanks!
Thank you to my favorite animal eye guy and friend Dr. Rob Sw***er for always taking the best care of my pups for many years now. Karma got an excellent report on her annual eye exam. Bodhi unfortunately his a pinpoint anterior cortical cataract in his right eye. It is uncommon for such a young dog to present with this diagnosis BUT Iโ€™m so grateful we have an opportunity to try to get ahead of it becoming worse. For now he will start daily Ocu-Glo supplements and be rechecked in six months. There is no issue with his vision currently and he is not uncomfortable or in any pain. So why use a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist over your regular veterinarian for annual eye exams? Because a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist is a doctor who specializes in diseases that can affect your pets eyes and vision. They are also equipped to diagnose and treat diseases that affect the structures surrounding the eye, such as the eyelids, conjunctiva, and some of the bones of the skull that comprise the eye socket. While your veterinarian can diagnose and treat many common eye conditions, certain diseases and injuries require the care of a doctor who has specialized, intensive training in veterinary ophthalmology in order to provide the very best outcome for your pet. Diseases that you may be familiar with as a result of your own visits to a human ophthalmologist include cataracts, glaucoma, retinal detachment, and corneal ulcerโ€˜s. For several years my pets have had annual eye exams with Dr. Sw***er of Animal Eye Guys to ensure the health of their eyes. As it turns out the pinpoint cataract that Bodhi has would not have been detected by my regular vet or me until it became problematic. Hopefully the Ocu-Glo supplement will slow down the progression. I highly recommend the expert Veterinary Ophthalmologists at @animal_eye_guys for your pups, regardless of their age, annual eye exam. Thank you Dr. Sw***er @animaleyeguyssouthwestfl for taking the best care of Karma and Bodhi.
