Where The Money Goes…
The Humane Society of Broward County relies on the generosity of our community and companies to fund our operations and programs budget. We do not get funding from the government, United Way or any other national or local organizations with similar names. Income sources are: adoption fees; services such as dog obedience, vaccination clinics, spay/neuter programs; pet boutique sales; fundraising events; grants; general donations and from those people who leave the shelter in their will. Every dollar is carefully spent to help the unwanted animals.

Meet King (ID 720374) - Doc’s Dog of the Week at the Humane Society of Broward County. 

This cutie is 8 months old, 28 pounds and looks like he is part Dachshund and part shepherd mix.  He is a dog that should definitely have a DNA test to determine exactly what his breed really is.   

King lost his home when his family had to move could not take him along.  They describe him as shy at first, so please give him time to get to know you.  He is also shy meeting other dogs. 

Once he feels comfortable, King likes to play fetch and he is a young dog with energy to burn, so be sure you have time to play with him.  A toybox full of toys will make him very happy, and he will need a regular schedule to master potty-training. 

King is good with kids ages 8 and up and it is unknown how he is with felines.  Can this unique looking fellow be part of your family?

Starting his new life! 🙌❤️
Our goodest boy, Manny, who was so terrified at the shelter, has found his forever family! 🥰 We promised this lovable guy that he’d get his chance at love, and he thinks it was well worth the wait. ❤️

This darling love bug was adopted by a wonderful family who will give him all the love, comfort, and care he deserves. 🥹❤️ They’ve already been sending us updates, and he’s settling in so well. 🙏

Thanks to Dolly's Dream | Pitbull Rescue Program, who covered Manny’s adoption fee, he also got to enjoy a shopping spree in our pet boutique before heading home with treats, toys, and a big comfy bed! 🫶

We’re so happy for Manny and his new family. 💕

Meet Melo ❤️🐾

At just 1 year old, Melo should be spending his days chasing balls, going on adventures, and learning all about the world. Instead, he found himself running the streets alone before making his way to our shelter.

Melo is a sweet boy who can be very shy at first. Loud noises and the busy shelter environment make him nervous, and sometimes he shuts down when things become overwhelming. But when he feels safe, his true personality starts to come out.

This handsome guy is housebroken, loves car rides, knows how to play fetch, and will happily bring the ball back for another throw. He knows “sit” and “down,” takes treats very gently, and absolutely loves to eat. Volunteers say he’s friendly, enjoys being petted, loves giving kisses, and will even hold your hand. ❤️

Melo gets along well with other dogs and enjoys having canine friends. He does like to chase cats, so a cat-free home may be best. As a young, strong dog, he’ll thrive with regular exercise, continued training, and a family willing to help build his confidence.

Right now, Melo is doing his best to be brave. What he really needs is a home where he can relax, feel safe, and finally be someone’s dog again. 🏠

Meet Grey ❤️🐾

Six-year-old Grey spent her entire life with one family. Unfortunately, when life changed, they no longer had time for her, and now she finds herself looking for a new place to call home.

Grey can be a little shy when meeting new people and may bark at first, but once she realizes you’re a friend, she’ll show you her sweet personality. She enjoys walks, likes to run, loves rope toys, and has a funny habit of digging little holes in the dirt. She’s more independent than cuddly, but she enjoys attention from people she trusts and likes being close by.

Our volunteers describe Grey as friendly, gentle, and easy to spend time with. One volunteer shared that after sitting with her for just a few minutes, Grey began wagging her tail and eagerly waited for her walk. Another said she seemed confused about why she was here at all. After spending her whole life in a home, we think she is wondering the same thing.

Grey is good with children and other dogs. We are unsure how she is with cats. Grey also has a condition that causes her kneecaps to slip out of place, and she has some early arthritis in her back legs. She gets around well, enjoys her walks, and our adoption team can answer any questions you may have about her care.

Our staff and volunteers adore this girl. Grey needs a family that will choose her, be patient with her, and never give up on her again. 🏠❤️

Our longest resident☹️💔
Five-year-old Futaba has been waiting longer than any other pet at our shelter.

After spending her entire life with one family, they moved and did not take her with them. When Futaba arrived, she was extremely scared. She spent her first month here hiding in her cage and would rarely come out. Because of that, many visitors never got the chance to see who she really is.

Months later, Futaba is finally starting to feel more comfortable. She now comes out for attention, enjoys being petted, loves ear rubs and chin scratches, and is beginning to trust the people around her. Staff and volunteers have worked hard to help her feel safe, and it has been rewarding to watch her slowly come out of her shell.

Her name, Futaba, means “new beginning,” and we would love to see her get one. According to her previous owners, she enjoys looking out the window, playing with wand toys, taking naps, and spending time with her people once she gets to know them. Futaba is not the type of cat who will walk into a new home and immediately act like she owns the place. She will need patience and understanding while she adjusts.

After waiting months for someone to choose her, we hope the right person finally sees her. Thanks to the Florida Panthers Benny’s Buddies program, Futaba’s adoption fee is covered. Hi, it’s me, Indy 😊

I’m 4 years old and waiting to meet my future family at the Humane Society of Broward County. While I wait, I’ve made a lot of friends here and wanted to introduce you to a few of them!

I love other dogs and would be happiest with a friend who enjoys playing as much as I do. The people here keep telling me how beautiful I am and what a good girl I am, but so far nobody has taken me for a ride home. So I’m doing my best to be patient and keep making friends while I wait. ❤️

Some of the dogs in these photos have been waiting much longer than I have. A few of them have spent months hoping someone will notice them. Seeing them every day reminds me that we’re all just looking for the same thing: a family to love.

If one of my friends catches your eye, my human friends at the shelter would be happy to answer any questions. You can send them a message or fill out an adoption application online to meet any of us.

Meet Odin, Stitch, Pucca, Anna, Max, Preston, Casey, and Baby. Each one is patiently waiting, still believing that someone out there will choose them and love them forever. ❤️‍🩹

Behind the kennel glass are dogs who spend their days watching people walk by, patiently hoping someone will notice them💔 We know not everyone can adopt right now, and that’s okay. But there are still small ways to help these sweet faces get the love and attention they deserve. 🙏

Sharing this post helps them reach the right person. ❤️‍🩹Sending a treat or a toy brings comfort to a long shelter day. Even leaving a simple “hello” in the comments helps their faces reach more people. Sometimes, that small act is all it takes for a life to change.♥️

Casey is the kind of dog who makes it easy to fall in love. 💕
 
This beautiful 3-year-old  was surrendered when her family felt they no longer had the time to care for her. While they had only been together for a short time, Casey once again finds herself searching for the one thing every dog deserves: a forever home where she is truly part of the family.
 
Her previous family described her as playful, loving, affectionate, and happiest when she’s spending time with her people. She enjoys walks, trips to the dog park, and plenty of attention. Casey is housebroken, crate trained, knows commands such as “sit,” “stay,” and “go,” and is highly food motivated, making continued training a fun and rewarding experience.
 
She enjoys pets, cuddles, and is generous with kisses. Once she feels comfortable, her playful side emerges, including an adorable, goofy run that never fails to make people smile.
 
Her former family reported that she does well with adults and children and would make a wonderful family companion. However, Casey enjoys chasing cats, so she will need a cat-free home. She can also be selective about other dogs, so any potential canine sibling will need to meet her first to ensure a good match.
 
More than anything, Casey wants to be loved. She wants a family to walk beside, a couch to cuddle on, and people she can shower with affection. She has so much love to give and is simply waiting for someone willing to give that love back.

Lua was adopted!! 🙌❤️
And she was so excited to start her new life! 🥹

This sweet 2-year-old girl came to us from another shelter, and had never truly known the comfort of a home 😔 All she needed was someone willing to give her the patience, love, and security she deserved. And now, she is officially HOME. 🥰

A heartfelt thank you to Lua’s new mom for opening her heart to this special girl. We are so happy she finally has a home where she can feel safe, loved, and understood ❤️

Summer is here! 🙌😄
Are you getting on the relaxi-taxi like our bathing beauty Fiona? 💗 Or are you diving in head first like our party animal Kobe? 💦

These two wonderful pups are each looking for their forever homes 🙏 But while they wait for loving families, we’re being sure to keep them extra cool and comfortable as the summer temperatures go up! 🌡️

2-year-old Fiona is a social butterfly when it comes to people. She loves meeting new friends, enjoys being petted, and is always happy to soak up attention from anyone willing to give it. Her friendly personality and enthusiasm for life make her a joy to be around. Like many young dogs, Fiona is still working on her manners and would benefit from continued training and consistency in her new home. The good news is that she is highly motivated by treats, toys, and praise, making her an excellent candidate for learning 💗

1.5-year-old Kobe is the kind of dog who believes everyone he meets is a potential new friend. He loves people and is always ready to play. When meeting someone new, his excitement sometimes gets the better of him and he may jump up to say hello, but once he’s had a chance to burn off some energy, he settles down nicely. Since arriving at the shelter, our staff has fallen for Kobe’s fun-loving personality. He is incredibly sociable and friendly, happily soaking up attention, pets, and affection from everyone he meets ❤️

Come stop by the shelter this weekend to say hello to them and perhaps make one of them your new family member! 😊
