We’re excited to share that Lindsay Harmon, MBA, CCRA, DVM Candidate 2028, has been awarded a Young Investigators Grant through Colorado State University to support our research project evaluating multimodal non-operative management of canine cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) disease 🐾

This project, in collaboration with Colorado State University and Red Sage Integrative Veterinary Partners, will include BOTH:
• a retrospective study evaluating outcomes in dogs previously managed conservatively for CCL disease
• a prospective pilot study following dogs undergoing non-surgical management over time using objective outcome measures such as gait analysis, radiographs, pain assessments, range of motion measurements, muscle girth measurements, and extracorporeal shockwave therapy

CCL disease is one of the most common causes of hind limb lameness in dogs. While surgery is often recommended, many dogs are managed conservatively for a variety of reasons. Our goal is to better understand outcomes associated with rehabilitation-based and multimodal conservative management strategies and help guide future evidence-based treatment recommendations.

We are incredibly grateful to Colorado State University for supporting this work and excited to continue advancing veterinary rehabilitation, sports medicine, regenerative medicine, and evidence-based patient care.

IT’S JOURNAL CLUB DAYYYY 📚✨

Today we dove into the research behind 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) and neurologic recovery 🧠🐾

We talked mechanism, real clinical outcomes, and why patient selection is everything with therapies like this. Not every patient responds- but in the right cases, there may be more potential for recovery than we once thought.

Staying current and critically evaluating new therapies is a big part of how we provide thoughtful, evidence-based care for our patients. In line with these values, we created a blog post to share some of what we discussed- because education and sharing knowledge with our community matter to us

If you’re curious to learn more, we broke it all down in our latest blog:
https://www.redsagevets.com/post/what-we-re-learning-4-aminopyridine-4-ap-and-neurologic-recovery

A huge thank you to Wolverine Farm Publick House for giving us such a wonderful space to meet and learn!

And if you want to dive into the research we discussed:

At Red Sage, we’re committed to staying current. Here’s what we learned about 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) and its potential role in neurologic recovery.

Happy Hump Day from Zoey 💛

This sweet girl is the definition of resilience. After a serious car accident as a young dog, she’s been putting in the work to stay strong and comfortable. For the last few weeks she’s been coming in for a series of shockwave therapy to keep her feeling her best— and clearly, she’s all smiles about it.

Proof that healing can look like wagging tails, big grins, and a whole lot of heart.

We’re lucky to be part of Zoey’s journey 🐾

BPC-157 has been getting a lot of attention lately, especially in discussions around tendon and soft tissue healing in dogs. But what does the science actually say?

In this new blog, Dr. Arielle Pechette Markley breaks down what BPC-157 is, how it’s being studied, and what we do (and don’t) know right now.

At Red Sage, we’re committed to staying current with emerging therapies while keeping our approach grounded in evidence and transparency.

If your dog is dealing with a chronic injury, this is a great place to start learning.

We kicked off the return of Red Sage Journal Club today 📚

This round, we focused on cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) disease— diving into current research on pathogenesis, regenerative medicine, and rehabilitation.

At Red Sage, staying current, collaborative, and grounded in evidence isn’t optional— it’s part of how we practice. Journal Club is one of the ways we continue to challenge ourselves, share perspectives, and bring the most up-to-date, thoughtful care to our patients.

And because community matters too, we hosted this one at Wolverine Farm Publick House — one of our favorite locally owned spots ☕️ 🍵👏

Peptides are everywhere right now… but what are they really?

Think of them as tiny messengers in the body, helping regulate healing, inflammation, metabolism, and more.

In this blog, we break down what peptides are, how they work, and where they may fit into a thoughtful, evidence-based care plan.

In the future, we'll dig deeper into specific peptides and how they can be utilized best for our patients. Stay tuned!

Peptides are gaining attention in both human and veterinary medicine, but understanding what they are and how they’re used is key. These small protein fragments act as signaling molecules that influence healing, inflammation, and more. While some are well-studied, others are still emerging, making...

There’s a part of veterinary medicine that’s quieter… slower… and deeply human.

In hospice and palliative care, the goal shifts from curing to caring-- supporting both pets and the people who love them through one of life’s hardest chapters. It’s about listening, honoring the human-animal bond, and helping families make thoughtful, compassionate decisions centered on quality of life.

In this blog, Dr. Jeret Benson reflects on what it truly means to “walk the last mile” alongside patients and their families.

If you’ve ever wondered what end-of-life care can look like, or if you’re navigating it now, we hope this offers comfort, clarity, and a sense that you’re not alone 🤍
