This horse had an injury many years ago that left him with facial nerve paralysis on the right. He was unable to blink his right eye and had severe drooling and drooping on the right. I started adjusting this horse a year ago and he is now able to blink and has near normal appearance and function of the right side of his face. Chiropractic sometimes seems like magic.

We are officially offering laser therapy!
Laser therapy uses photobiomodulation which means photons enter the tissue and undergo a cascade that increases cellular metabolism. This specific laser aids in edema reduction, pain relief, and improved healing times. The class IV laser can be used for management of arthritis, back pain, wound healing, edema, and more. This modality does not replace standard medical care although is a wonderful addition to the treatment plan. You will see this on the website this week but feel free to reach out with questions.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SPOT COLIC IN HORSES?

Colic is not a disease; it is merely a symptom of disease. Specifically, colic indicates a painful problem in the horse's abdomen (belly), which can be caused by a number of different conditions. Less than 10% of all colic cases are severe enough to require surgery or cause the death of the horse; nevertheless, every case of colic should be taken seriously because it can be difficult to tell the mild ones from the potentially serious ones in the early stages.

Horses show signs of abdominal pain in a wide variety of ways, and usually a horse shows only a few of the signs during an episode of colic. The rule of thumb is—the more obvious the signs of pain, the more serious the problem.

If you suspect the horse is suffering from colic, we suggest that you:
• Alert your veterinarian immediately.
• Remove all hay and grain from the horse's surroundings.
• Don't medicate without your veterinarian's approval, as pain medications can mask clinical signs;
• Walk the horse around if it's continually rolling or in danger of hurting itself—but do not tire the horse with relentless walking and don't approach the animal if it's not safe.
• Keep the horse under close observation until the signs of colic resolve or the veterinarian arrives.

The key to increasing the chances of a good outcome is to identify the problem early and get your veterinarian involved from the start. Consult your horse doctor for more information and be sure to ask them how they can be reached if your horse colics after hours!

It has arrived! The class IV laser is here! My personal pets of course get the first round of treatments and so far so good. Mira has a joint cyst secondary to chronic inflammation from a historical soft tissue injury. She has had a persistent lameness so she is getting a full treatment protocol for her limb. I wouldn’t say she is the biggest fan of the glasses 🤓. More information to come in the next few days! Please message me with any questions or if you’d like to discuss if your pet may benefit from this modality.

I have been radio silent for the last few weeks due to tireless work on the launch of the new website! A lot is changing as the practice grows and I am so excited to continue to offer more options to pet parents for restoration and recovery. By the end of the year, class IV therapeutic laser will be offered. Keep an eye out on the site for more information. Next year there will be even more exciting changes and some sneak peaks can be found on the site.

Finally, online scheduling is up and running! If this is an easier option for you, please check it out. Otherwise, you’re welcome to continue to schedule directly.

As always, thank you to all my wonderful clients taking such amazing care of their animals.

Get those sheep on the schedule! These are my FAVORITE because they actually pop 💥 did you know adjustments can increase feed efficiency, nutrient utilization, decrease pain, and boost the immune system? It’s about so much more than just trying to get rid of the roach back.

Lesson of the day!
Have you ever seen an adjustment in a horse? It seems impossible since they're so large! Horses and dogs actually require MUCH LESS force than a person. This is because their nervous systems are so dang sensitive in comparison. We don't strive to get the CRACK in animals because they don't have the same degree of gas build up in their joints as people. A lot of times we will hear the crack like in this video, but it is not the goal. What is the goal? RESTORATION OF MOTION! If we restore movement, we restore blood flow and appropriate neurologic function. This is a mid cervical adjustment which requires the perfect angles and amount of force to get things moving. This is most definitively to be done only by an animal chiropractor who is either a veterinarian or a human chiropractor as this does require much education!

What is chiropractic??? Does this really help?!

Chiropractic as a whole is focused primarily on restoring appropriate movement and function to the joints of the spinal column and limbs thus reducing inflammation, restoring appropriate blood flow and neurologic function. Chiropractic focus' on diagnosing and treating vertebral subluxation complexes. A vertebral subluxation complex is reduced motion within a joint, causing an alteration in the normal motion. This reduced motion results in cell change in the joint within hours to days. By applying a force to the region and restoring motion, the body is able to use its innate ability to heal and appropriate biomechanics can be restored.
