Some of our tiniest rehab patients are officially ready for release! 🐭🌿

Now we’re just waiting for the weather to cooperate so these little ones can head into the wild safely. Warmer temps and dry conditions make a huge difference for small animals making the transition to life outdoors.

They’ve come such a long way, and we can’t wait for release day. 💚

Some tiny patients arrive looking like they don’t stand much of a chance, and this little bunny was one of them.

This baby came in after being caught by a cat with facial wounds and injuries to a leg. Cat saliva is extremely toxic to wildlife, which is why licensed wildlife rehabbers start antibiotics as quickly as possible, even when injuries appear minor.

After a course of antibiotics, lots of rest, supportive care, and good nutrition, this little one is doing remarkably well. ❤️ The leg still needs to get stronger before release, but the bunny is eating great, alert, and beginning to use the injured leg more each day. 🐰

These two baby voles came into care today 💔

They were found a few days ago, and despite someone doing their best to help, they arrived significantly underweight and weak. At this stage, eyes just about to open, they should weigh around 6–8 grams, but these two were only 3 grams. One was already showing signs of aspiration and sadly passed away around 5pm today.

The finder had the best intentions, and we’re always grateful when people care enough to step in. These little ones are just incredibly fragile, and their needs are very specific, precise feeding schedules, proper formula, and correct technique are critical, and even small deviations can have serious consequences.

This is an important reminder that when it comes to wildlife:
✔️ Reuniting with mom is always the best first step if the baby is not injured.
✔️ If that’s not possible, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator as soon as possible.

Early, specialized care truly makes all the difference.

We’re continuing to support the remaining baby and doing everything we can

This morning I took in a flying squirrel who had been caught in a glue trap. She is currently resting after being removed from the trap and cleaned up💔

Glue traps cause an incredibly slow and painful death. Animals don’t die quickly, they panic, struggle, tear their skin and fur, break bones, and can suffer for hours or even days before help comes… if it comes at all.

What makes this even harder is that glue traps don’t just catch the animal they’re intended for. Birds, squirrels, chipmunks, reptiles, pets, and other unintended wildlife are frequently trapped simply for passing through the wrong place at the wrong time.

Please consider safer, more humane alternatives. If an animal is getting into a space, there are solutions that don’t involve prolonged suffering. And if you ever find an animal stuck to a glue trap, do not try to pull them off, contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately.

Wildlife doesn’t deserve to die this way. Awareness is how we prevent this from happening. 🐿️💚

Thank you so much to Sue Smallman for these beautiful handmade sweaters for the rehab. 💚 I don’t currently have any little models in care to show them off, but they look incredibly cozy and are clearly made with so much care. I’m truly grateful for your kindness and generosity.

Another package arrived today filled with beautiful handmade items for the rehab, along with a Christmas card with a lovely note. One of the hammocks was put to use right away, with Miss Tuesday happily enjoying her snack while lounging in it. These gifts mean more than words, for the animals and for the reminder of how much kindness surrounds this work. Thank you so much, Carole Schuh, for your generosity and support. 🤍

A literal wild goose chase… sort of! 🪶

Last night’s rescue call turned into what you could technically call a wild goose chase, though not the kind that involves much running! This Canada goose tried to take flight but quickly exhausted himself and was unable to stand. Thankfully, I was able to safely net him without any struggle.

This morning, he was transferred to a federally licensed rehabber since my license doesn’t cover federally protected birds. He’s now in great hands and will be getting the care he needs to recover. 💚

Sometimes wildlife rescue brings surprises, even when the “chase” turns out to be a gentle catch
