Tomorow is Giving Tuesday, a day that holds deep meaning for all of us at CVRR. It’s a day rooted in gratitude, generosity, and the belief that every life deserves a chance. For us, it’s a reminder that this rescue runs not on buildings or budgets—but on hearts, homes, and the people willing to love an animal all the way to their second chance.

This is Moseley.
He has been in our care for 536 days.
A gentle giant with a soft heart, a stubborn streak, and a habit of acting a little grumpy when you dare interrupt a nap—honestly, same.

Like raising children, fostering means helping someone grow into who they’re meant to be… and then letting them go so they can step into the life they were always meant to live. You love them, teach them, cheer for them, and when the time comes, you proudly watch them take their place in the world. It’s joyful. It’s bittersweet. It’s transformative—for them and for us.

Moseley may not be the flashy dog who draws a crowd. He’s just an average Joe—a sweet, steady soul who somehow hasn’t gotten much attention. But he is so incredibly worthy of a family of his own.

And fostering made sure he had the chance to blossom into the loving, loyal, quirky boy he is today.

💛 This is why Giving Tuesday matters to CVRR.
Because dogs like Moseley need:
• Safe places to land
• People willing to open their homes
• Medical care, food, training, and time
• A safety net while they wait for “their” person

We never want to say no to dogs like him—dogs who just need a little longer, a little love, a little patience. Your support makes that possible.

If Moseley’s story touches your heart, please consider giving today.
Whether you donate, foster, volunteer, or simply share this post—you are part of the safety net that saves lives.

On Giving Tuesday, help us keep the promise we make to every animal who enters our care: You matter. You are loved. You are worth it.

Thank you for giving, for caring, and for believing in second chances. Visit our site at cvrrescue.org

There are a lot of misconceptions about what it takes to be a foster family.

The truth?

Yes, we have a few stay-at-home parents…
But most of our fosters work full-time jobs and still manage beautifully.

Some live in apartments, others in homes with fenced yards.

Your foster pup may need a little time to settle, but most figure out the household routine shockingly fast.

Got resident pets? Some shelter dogs learn the ropes better with a mentor buddy, others prefer being the one and only diva of the home.

And best part: CVRR pays for everything your foster needs while they’re in care. Food, medical, supplies — we’ve got you covered.

So what’s actually helpful as a foster family?

⭐️ A sense of humor (because shenanigans happen)
⭐️ Patience (because sometimes those shenanagans happen at inopportune times)
⭐️ Flexibility (dogs do not read schedules; we’ve checked)
⭐️ A soft spot for second chances
⭐️ A willingness to fall a little in love… and repeat the process again and again.

Do you have a question about fostering? Met some of our foster families? We want to hear!

🐾 CAT TAIL TALK 101 🐾

Because your cat absolutely is communicating—you’re just their slightly slow roommate.

🐈‍⬛ Tail Straight Up — “Hello, beloved servant.”
Confident, happy, pleased to see you. This is premium-grade affection right here.

🐈 Tail Question-Mark Shape — “Hey! Wanna hang out?” Friendly, curious, and open to interaction. Proceed with scritches.

🐈‍⬛ Tail Puffed Up — “SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG.”
Frightened or startled. They are now 200% cat, all the better to scare off invisible threats.

🐈 Tail Swishing/Thrashing — “I’m Annoyed. Tread Lightly.” Fast swishes = irritated. Slow swishes = thinking deep thoughts (usually about chaos or snacks).

🐈‍⬛ Tail Wrapped Around You — “You are mine.”
A cat hug! Claiming you with love… or just reminding everyone that you’re property now.

🐈 Tail Low or Tucked — “Not feeling too sure.”
Nervous or cautious. Extra gentle vibes only.

🐈‍⬛ Tail Twitching at the Tip — “Plotting. Considering. Focusing.” Often seen during hunting mode or when watching a bird they could absolutely catch… you know, hypothetically. If there wasn’t a oeskh window separating them.

🐈 Tail Draped Over Another Cat — “We’re buddies.”
This is the feline version of slinging an arm around someone’s shoulder.

Does your cat have a particularly talkative tail?

😸Cats can’t be trained!😸

A lifetime ago, when I worked at Seven Hills Animal Hospital, there was a chunky, entitled, striped office cat named Freddy. Whenever a staff member made the grave mistake of bringing luncheon selections that happened to suit His Highness’s palate, he would begin cycling through his repertoire of tricks—one after another—in an earnest attempt to impress the human into surrendering a morsel.

He would hop up and down, offer a jaunty little wave, spin in a circle, and punctuate the performance with a hopeful meow. And when all that failed, he deployed his modern-day feline version of an aristocratic glare, then wait for you to crumple under the weight of his furry disdain.

All those charming little tricks had been taught as part of an experiment for one of the technicians’ animal-behavior classes. What we learned, in the end, was that Freddy was perfectly capable of learning cues…brilliant, even, when he wished to be. But like humans, he required precisely the right motivation to actually follow through on a request.

Similar tests have been done on a larger scale multiple times, with similar results.

In the 1870s, the Belgian Society for the Elevation of the Domestic Cat trained about 37 cats to carry messages. They tied small, waterproof pouches with letters around the cats’ necks. Some cats did manage to make it back home with messages: one reportedly completed a route in under 5 hours, but others took up to 24 hours. The idea was never fully adopted not because they were unintellegebt ir incapable but because cats turned out to be, well, cats.

We want to know… Does your kitty know any tricks? Bonus points for a video!
