We carry both Solensia and Librela in the clinic. They are used for arthritic pain in cats and dogs. Both are monoclonal antibody that specifically targets a key driver of OA pain. It works to reduce pain signals, making it easier for your dog to move and play! It's a monthly injection that we administer during a quick technician appointment.

September is Pet Pain Awareness Month.

Animals suffer from pain just like people do. Pain comes in many forms: surgical pain, arthritis, and cancer-related pain, just to name a few. Acute pain is obvious and distressing. Chronic pain can be subtle and masked as “getting old” or “slowing down.”

Some symptoms of pain in cats and dogs:
Decreased activity, lethargy, or reluctance to play
Withdrawal or hiding
Increased irritability or agitation
Changes in sleep patterns or restlessness
Difficulty standing up or jumping onto surfaces
Reluctance to go for walks or use stairs
Decreased appetite or thirst
Overgrooming or repetitive licking of a specific area
Changes in toileting habits
Panting more than usual (especially in dogs)
Vocalization changes, such as more whining or growling

We offer a range of options for managing pain in pets, including medications, acupuncture, and cold laser therapy.

Talk to your pet’s doctor if you think your pet is displaying signs of pain.

Meet Perseverance!

Miss Perseverance has been waiting for a home for a year. She was treated for 84 days for FIP(feline infectious peritonitis) & is cured. This does not affect her ability to be around other cats. She is an attention hog and is vocal, so she will need a home that will allow her to be a velcro cat with a touch of curiosity.

She is available through St Francis Animal Rescue, here is her link: https://www.stfrananimal.org/animals/detail?AnimalID=21240427

Meet Ares and Luna!

These two giant pups are a bonded pair. Ares has some limited eyesight and is deaf, so he relies on Luna (who has some limited vision issues, too) for support. They love car rides and being where you are, so be prepared for two velcro pups!

These two are gentle giants who would love a home without other dogs so they can shine, but will do well with cats and older kids.

They are available through Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue: https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1579465&name=Ares+(22-106+with+Luna)

Meet Myla!

Myla is a shy 6-year-old girl who needs a home with another big dog to help her build her confidence. She loves to play, is learning to walk better on the leash, and will cuddle on the couch with you! She's been waiting months for the perfect home.

She is available through the Minnesota Boxer Rescue. Here is a link: https://minnesotaboxerrescue.com/boxers

Meet Owen!

Owen has been with Safe Hands Animal Rescue since October 2021 and is still looking for his forever home. He is 4 years old now.

He has some cool wheels to help him get around as he is an active boy tearing around the yard to chase things, and loves helping his foster mom with laundry. He is good with other dogs and kids and is respectful of the resident cat.

This week is Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week. We will be showcasing some of our rescue partners' fosters that are looking for their perfect homes!

A less adoptable pet might be:
• A senior animal: who has already lived much of their life.
• An animal with a chronic medical condition or special needs that requires extra care.
• A shy or timid animal that needs more time to become comfortable in a new home.
• A black-colored pet, as they are often difficult to photograph and can be overlooked in a shelter setting.
• A bonded pair: of animals that must be adopted together.

Today is Su***de Awareness Day.

Today is a time to raise awareness, promote hope, and normalize help-seeking. Su***de affects millions of people every year, yet too many struggle in silence.

The veterinary field has one of the highest su***de rates of any industry.

Some of the reasons why are:
-Ethical and financial conflicts: Veterinary staff often deal with the emotional weight of pet euthanasia and the distress of pet owners who cannot afford care, creating compassion fatigue.

-High debt: Veterinarians face a significant amount of educational debt, which can be a major financial burden.

-Long hours and burnout: The demanding nature of the job leads to extended hours and a high risk of burnout.

-Underappreciation: their hard work is not appreciated, and they are sometimes subject to difficult or abusive clients.

About Us

For over 50 years the Forest Lake Veterinary Hospital has been providing compassionate, friendly, quality care for Forest Lake and the surrounding communities. Our veterinarians and staff work hard to make this a place where both you and your pets will feel welcome and cared for.

Our pets are important members of our families. Should your pet become ill or require treatment, we will work with you to fully explain your pet’s condition and to devise the best possible diagnostic treatment plan for you and your pet. We consider your involvement in your pet’s health an essential and critical component of maintaining his or her health.

We feature the latest technology for the diagnosis and treatment of small animals, including on-site blood chemistry analysis, blood count analysis, digital x-ray, EKG and a complete surgical suite with isoflorane anesthesia and pulse oximeter. In addition to traditional medicine we also offer the latest in accupunture for our patients. On-site ultrasound and board certified surgeons are also available on an as needed basis.

While we are quite proud of our facility, we are most proud of the level of care and service we provide our patients and clients. We feel our commitment to caring and communication sets us apart. We strive to provide the best possible level of care for your pet, and to do it in the most humane and least stressful manner possible.
