The Water World Exhibit kicked off at Manor Mill Gallery in Monkton, MD last Saturday. It was very well attended, and the artwork was wonderful.
When I was invited to display 6 of my paintings, I was experiencing a family crisis...my daughter, who lives in Atlanta, had a challenging childbirth. As a result, my new Grandson was in the beginning of a months-long stay in the NICU.
I have a friend here locally who is a NICU nurse, and I called her to discuss my Grandson's situation. As our conversation was winding down, my friend told me about a mission trip that she and others from Hopkins, had taken to Africa. While they were there, they had helped to dig an irrigation well for the community they visited.
That made a light go off in my head, and I reached out to Brad Blair, the curator for Manor Mill, and proposed that I create another painting spotlighting the efforts of the Water Wells For Africa charity. He graciously accepted. I contacted the Water Wells for Africa organization to get permission to do a painting using a reference photo from their website.
Not only did they accept, but the Water Wells For Africa charity decided to sponsor the the Water World Exhibition. They are a great group that performs a much needed service to unpriviledged communities. You can learn more about them from their website: https://waterwellsforafrica.org/
I have donated the painting, and Manor Mill has agreed to take a generous reduction from their normal commission.
Here is the painting that I created, which shows the local people enjoying clean water for drinking and irrigation purposes. It is on a 2ft x 3ft canvas, and is titled, "Water Well in Njoka, Malawi Africa".

(FYI: My Grandson seems to be doing fine, and I'm looking forward to visiting them next week.)
