Over 2 min unedited of Roxy’s training session today. Sorry to my non horse friends. So happy with her progress. Steering is getting really good. She is so steady with her head and so relaxed. I really don’t care where her head is. I don’t care about her speed. I’m just leaving her be and letting her figure it out on her own. So many people want everything at once, they want a low head, they want a certain speed, they want collection. Let’s just focus on relaxing first, it will make everything easier in the end if you first focus on a relaxed horse. Head will lower on its own if your horse is relaxed.

After only a few weeks under saddle and nothing at all consistent due to work/life you know you are doing things right when you get on and they are relaxed right off the bat and go like this 🤗
Taking the time to get every step good and NEVER forcing because of a horse show! (Been seeing this so much lately) this causes a horse to react, shut down,or become fearful. It is never about winning for me, it’s about the relationship. A horse will give you everything if you just take the time they need to understand.

This maybe an unpopular opinion, but this is the first time asking for a lope under saddle. Roxy has only a handful of rides and just the last few has she really felt like she had enough forward to ask for the lope. She was great just doing a slow trot with her head in the dirt but no forward. Today she felt relaxed at an extended trot, blowing out and relaxing while moving out, then letting her move into the lope asking with just a soft kiss. Once she took a few strides I let her come down and relax. That was the right answer. We did this a few times. So the next ride I will be asking for the lope once she feels really forward, then when she breaks to a trot I will just ask again. Taking all pressure off once she lopes. I know I could have just pushed her harder, and I’m not saying that is wrong, but I want her to go into the lope with no bracing.
I’m so excited to see how far this girl goes. She is so chill!

Roxy had 2 weeks off from work due to work and weather. Didn’t get any video of her ride cause it was so hot my phone was on fire. But she saddled right up like a seasoned horse and I hoped on, had the best ride to date. 😎
So nice to have a horse that only has a handful of rides and can have 2 weeks off and is better than the last time.
