Weeks ago, I received a call about a female Belgian Malinois that was roaming the streets with a leash attached in a one of the rougher areas of New Orleans. Beth and Julie launched a successful effort to rescue her off the streets. So first and foremost, hats off to these heroes! Annie, a five year old Malinois came to AFM K9, where she is now a permanent resident receiving both medical and behavioral rehabilitation. Over the coming weeks, we will be showing Annie’s transformation to demonstrate the steps necessary when adopting a rescue dog. This will hopefully inspire people to help more dogs like Annie. When you do things the right way, you get the right results.

It’s essential that your dog cooperates while being medically examined. This is for both the safety of the dog and the medical team alike. Good behavior contributes to the thoroughness of the physical exam and work up. It will create more flexibility for the owner when the dog can be dropped off, and examined with reduced stress for all involved. This is possible with training, and is another way to improve your relationship with your dog.

Oreo the Party Poodle has made it through her puppy portion of ADA Service Dog Training. Positioning onboard the aircraft is shown here, and later this year she will be flying around the country while supporting her owners mobility needs. Great job Oreo!
