There’s something magical about the bond between a little girl and her pony—two spirited souls learning the world together, one small adventure at a time. On a warm Sunday afternoon, our daughter came barreling into the house for a quick snack in the middle of her ride.
Knowing how important it is to securely tie up her pony, she scanned the front yard looking for a good hitching post. That’s when she spotted the shepherd’s hook — which holds the birdfeeders — and to her 6-year-old mind, it looked just like the 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵 hitching post.
She tied up her trusty (and slightly mischievous) partner, Skipper, and ran inside. But the moment she was out of sight, Skipper saw his chance. That birdseed? It looked like a buffet. By the time I rounded the corner, he was happily jostling the feeders, birdseed falling like confetti across his face and the yard.
Just then, Viv came flying out of the house and saw the scene. “Skipper!” she yelled, marching across the yard and untying him with all the righteous indignation a 6-year-old can muster. She was a little flustered, but despite herself, she smirked at her pony’s messy, snack-covered face.
Thankfully, only a few bites were eaten and Skipper was just fine. Viv also learned a valuable lesson: not every post is meant for ponies—some are just for the birds. After a quick chat about tying spots and shepherd’s hooks, the two of them trotted off again—ready for the next lesson, the next laugh, and the next little adventure.
