Been a busy few months after posting about the box I received from Waters By Klaus. If you haven’t heard by now they have a 3d printed line of fish ready to order. I had the privilege to work on a few of them over the last few months. Here are some quick thoughts and pictures of a Sunfish and Largemouth Bass.
Pros
1) extremely durable (dropped a LMB one time and nothing broke)
2) antiqued and painted easily
3) out of the box ready to set eyes and paint
4) great detail, WBK fixing any imperfections
5) the spiney dorsal, soft, a**l, and caudel fin being attached will help commercially time wise so taxidermist can make more money.
6) currently they are making those same fins as above to be transluscent. However, the current ones hold thier shape and are really strong.
Cons
1). Paired fins attachments are harder to attach. They are the great thin fins that WBK already has and are fixing that issue so taxidermist don’t loose that time attaching those paired fins.
2). Small pin hole on a**l opening that you have to fill quick. Also on the larger fish when it is getting printed it leaves a spot on the bottom of the cheek that you have to sand or fill. Doesn’t take to much time and they are aware of it and going to see if not already fix it.
3) a**l fin and soft dorsal fins are completely touching sometimes to the body of the fish. It is good becuase it isn’t flagging but if you want space in it to get better curve in fins you have to dremel quick.
Overall these are amazing products. Even though I listed cons they are not show stoppers. The team at WBK is outstanding and are at the tip or the spear with this technology. They will listen to customers and people who use thier products. Hit them up on all the social medias, order one and check them out yourself. Tell them what you think and show off your work. The price point is comparable and worth the money in my opinion. Waters by Klaus
