On occasion Häst will get questions or concerns about operation of our Instant Release Spread Bar. Most often the complaint is that the Ram Hooks are on a “hair trigger.” This is most likely caused by not seating the ram hook properly when in its pre-deployment configuration. With every shipment we include the instruction pamphlet from the manufacturer which should be reviewed. But to help out, I’ve attached some pictures. Videos with narration in the comments. REQUEST FOR INFORMATION:

We recently were contacted by a rescue group in Europe wanting a head protector sized for use on cows. To be honest, here at Häst we have no sizing data nor any easily available cows on which to try one. Has anyone in this group used one of our regular sized head protectors on a cow? If so, was the fit “adequate”, or are we needing to come up with an entirely new template? Thanks in advance.

UPGRADES for 2024!

At Häst, we listen! When Tori from 4 Hooves reached out to us with a request on the front and rear slings and straps, we took her suggestions to heart and decided to make upgrades to our sling packages. Tori explained that during mud rescues in particular it was sometimes difficult to pass our normal chest sling under the neck. She wanted the smaller strap that is used on the rear of the animal. She also wanted D rings as points of attachment to help pull the strap through the mud or to be used for tag lines. So we went into design mode and came up with the following. As is apparent, it emulates the same D ring spacing as on our padded chest sling. Now, when a sling package is ordered, the customer will receive the standard chest sling for those situations where comfort is needed, but also receive 2 front/rear straps with D rings for use in mud or other difficult situations. This gives the operators options!

Another upgrade is coming in our ordering process. Instead of having PDF files that need to be downloaded, filled in, and scanned for return, we are making those forms with “fill in fields” that can be saved and returned by email. This saves on handling paper and those intermediate steps. We have a couple of forms upgraded already. We’ll have the rest finished before the end of the year.

At Häst, we are continuing to expand our international sales. We recently added New Zealand to our page of customers overseas. With equipment sent to South Korea, and a new customer in Belgium, we are excited about the future!

While we are respectful of the Memorial Day weekend, there still is work to do. We're completing an order destined for South Dakota. We shipped the frame columns and mud lances a number of weeks ago. They were "long" things going in a crate by themselves. Here we have the bipod head and feet, a water rescue harness, and the rest of the mud rescue package. The Nicopolous Needle always takes a lot of room. Finally, hidden under the cardboard are a number of 48" double headed stakes. Glad to check one more order off the board. However, three more have popped up to take its place. I am truly grateful for the continued work!

Was preparing to weld up a pair of bipod feet. The first things to go on are the cleats underneath, each foot taking four. Let’s see what there is in stock. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, . . . BLAST! Well, staring at the bin won’t make one magically appear. Only one thing to do is to run another batch! Anyway, now have enough to do the bipod and then a bunch more. Note to self: Don’t leave an odd number in the bin! Having a set where there is one short is NOT helpful! LOL

When manufacturing equipment, the "making" aspect is only part of the story. Getting it to customers is another thing entirely. Our shipping department is set up to handle anything that is needed. When we had to send this large order, instead of a zillion smaller packages going by UPS, we decided it would be better to package everything in one crate. One thing that is learned quickly is better rates are achieved when using a standard pallet size of 40 x 48 inches. In this case we had a lot of competition for floor space. So, we used the vertical space available and zip tied items to the walls. Voila! Always finding better ways to accomplish what is needed!

Häst always appreciates when our equipment is used to its potential. In this case the head protector is perfectly positioned and has a snug fit. The thick padding allows it to be rather tight so long as there is no halter underneath. Our thanks to Tori Miller McLeod for providing this photo from a training exercise.
