Show season is under way!

We only had three horses from the barn make the trip to Spokane Sport Horse Farm for their 31st annual spring show. Bob took Rhoanoke at Prix St Georges and debuted at Intermediare 1 to earn the FEI Reserve Champion, and D'Spot at Second Level and debuted at Third Level, winning the Reserve Champion for the show at both levels. Student Carol Mavros and her Leonidas show at Second Level and took home the Highpoint Champion for the show. Congrats to our tiny show contingent!

Next weekend we're off to Cle Elum for the Chablis/Beaujolais show.

Best of luck to everyone this show season-- enjoy your horse and may all of your centerlines be straight and your halts square and immobile!

From Grand Prix to First Timers the May Dressage Show was a great weekend to open the season and celebrate Mother’s Day

For sale:

If you are a small person with a very wide horse that needs some help behind due to a dropped back or a very uphill conformation, then I have the perfect saddle for you!

Albion SLK Brentina Dressage Saddle in excellent used condition. Only ever handled and flocked by Certified Albion dealers/reps and repair. Ultima/buffalo leather, 16.5" seat, low head, narrow seat, 15.5" molded flap (measured from TOP of stirrup bar), originally a medium tree, changed to an XW tree (just a tad narrower than a 335 if you're familiar with the Albion Platinum trees, regardless a very wide tree) by Duchess Bridle and Saddle, which is recommended shop via importer for widening or narrowing tree (see photo with stamp, which says 7/13). Larger rear gusset ideal for horse needing help behind to balance saddle, large front panel, currently flocked generically by certified Albion fitter. All stitching in excellent condition. Velcro blocks can be moved to some degree to customize desired leg position. Only cosmetic issues are where a name plate was on back of cantle and a very minor leather "scratch" on left skirt (see photos). Wonderful saddle for youth or small adult on a wide horse. Was always a favorite saddle but I can never find a horse to use it on and it's time to finally find it a new home.

A very big thank you to Nancy Dotti of Contact Saddles for making the trek to Montana and spending three days at the barn working on saddles and doing bit fittings (plus a 4th day at another location)! I'm tired just thinking about it. So privileged and grateful to have a saddle fitter of Nancy's caliber come twice yearly-- she'll be back in the fall should anyone want a spot. Nancy worked on well over two dozen saddles, did a handful of bit fittings, and several people trialed saddles of the 4 different brands she currently works with (though she works with all english saddles). Happy to say Montana covered its bases during her trip, from snow to high 70s. ☔️☀️

Now that we are all comfy and functional, on to show season! Happy spring everyone! 🥳🐴🏆

SADDLE AND BIT FITTING, APRIL 17th-19th

Saddle woes? Bitting and contact troubles? I have openings for the saddle fitting clinic with Nancy Dotti of Contact Saddles when she is here at the barn (south of Missoula) next month.
Nancy is a Society of Master Saddlers UK and US Certified fitter, and Contact Saddles is located in Santa Rosa and is the West Coast distributor for Albion Saddles, and they carry a few other brands of saddle as well! Nancy can flock to fit (most) wool flocked saddles or help you shim your saddle with high quality felt shims and a correction pad. Have an english saddle with fit issues? We can help.
Saddle fitting second to none and a great privilege to have her come to Montana! If you're interested in purchasing a jump or dressage saddle, demos are being offered as well. If you're looking to do a demo I need a big heads up on this, as saddles will be shipped ahead of time based on what you/your horse needs.
Nancy is also offering bit fittings for both snaffle and double bridles, using the awesome bits of Neue Schule. Super cool to see contact/bitting issues resolved with a bit that is truly right for your horse! A comfortable horse is a happy horse.

Time is of the essence, as we'll drop Friday if there isn't a need; the sooner I have a head count, the sooner we can arrange flights/hotels.
If you're interested in a bit fitting, saddle fitting and assessment (any make of english saddle), or demoing saddles, please EMAIL ME at [email protected] (I often don't see messages on messenger with any kind of timeliness) with any questions you may have or to reserve a spot. There is a required non-refundable deposit of 75.00 to hold a spot.

Gift ideas? For yourself even. ;)

Saddle pad/blanket bags left over from my "need a project at home" adventures this summer! Made from heavy duty canvas, heavy duty velcro closure, and have a hanging loop on back. They fit 2-4 english pads or a large heavy weight winter blanket. They measure roughly 27" wide by 25" tall. All of my show pads live in these and I first made them years ago as a way to bring pads to shows and keep them clean, but these also are a great way to store multiple show sheets or light fill blankets or one giant blanket (my horses wear 81" blankets and they are a great size for their heavy winter blankets). These are what's left, so a very mixed bag of patterns. Only one of each, though I technically have a royal purple one with dressage horses that I never got around to finishing, but could.

65.00 for one, 115.00 for two. Please email me at [email protected], or come by the barn and see them in the tackroom. (I'm not very good at checking facebook messages on this account, FYI!) Also happy to ship them for an additional 13.00

Actual colors of the bags are given on each photo, as some of them might be a little bit different than the photo shows. :)

With a few horses having to stay home for a variety of reasons, only Bob with two horses and long time student Carol with her horse attended the 2025 GAIG/USDF Region 6 Dressage Championships at Devonwood Equestrian Center in Oregon this past week/weekend.

Bob and Rhoanoke placed 6th out of 14 in the Fourth Level Open Championship, and then 16th out of 21 in the Prix St Georges Open Championship.

Bob and D'Spot had a successful (albeit frustrating) week of classes, coming second with high 60s in both first and second level warmup classes, and then taking the Reserve Champion in the First Level Open Championship with a 70+% (a very annoying .07% out of first), as well as the Reserve Champion in the Second Level Open Championship with a 69+%. Yay Spotty!

Carol and her Leonidas had some ups and downs, including a couple wins of warmup classes at first and second level, an unfortunately problematic Second Level AA Championship, and a 3rd place finish with a 67+% in a very tight First Level AA Championship.

Congrats to everyone on a great year! Already looking forward to next year, particularly since it's about 30 degrees right now.
