Puppies are learning the difference between where we sleep and where we potty this week. I know it looks small, but that is on purpose right now. At this stage as soon as puppies wake up from a nap, they toddle over a few steps and relieve themselves. Giving them any more space at the moment will set them up for failure if we are going to learn how to potty in a designated area. In a few days the whelping box will go and their area will expand, but for the next few days we will focus heavily on giving them as many wins as possible by helping them potty in the box. Puppies are pretty predictable. Every time they wake up and eat they need to potty at this age. If you can go wake them up every couple of hours and put them on their litter pan and praise, praise, praise when they potty in the pan it only takes a few days for them to get it. The alfalfa pellets give the association of the smell of grass making it much easier for puppies to understand that we potty in the grass once we go home to our new homes. It also keeps there space here much more sanitary in the meantime.
