Horses with PPID (commonly called Cushings disease) lack the brain chemistry that signals their body to properly grow a coat and to shed it during the warmer months. Fortunately there is a medication that helps stabilize the hormones, but often these horses and ponies require body clipping.
Poor Beau has been suffering from Cushings for so long that he had developed an abnormally thick coat, despite being medicated for the past year. Today he finally got a haircut, and he is feeling much better. ❤️

Last Saturday we brought the mini horses to The Palms nursing home right down the road from the barn to visit the residents, and they were a big hit! Sam (buckskin - FAHS rescue) and Rebel (chestnut pinto belongs to one of our volunteers) were so well-behaved, and they really helped to brighten the day of the elderly residents. We are hoping to make this a regular event!

Mike has been our farrier for the past eight years, and he’s helped so many of our rescues stay sound and comfortable. We miss him at the farm!
