🐱 Why Cats Hide Illness
Cats are masters at pretending everything is fine — even when they’re not feeling well.
In the wild, showing weakness made animals vulnerable, so cats naturally learned to hide pain and sickness. Even our spoiled house cats still carry those instincts today.
That means the signs of illness are often subtle:
• Sleeping more than usual
• Hiding or avoiding interaction
• Changes in appetite or thirst
• Weight loss
• Less grooming (or overgrooming)
• Litter box changes
• Jumping less or hesitating before jumping
• Acting “off” in ways hard to describe
Many cat owners don’t realize something is wrong until the symptoms have progressed significantly.
That’s why routine exams matter so much for cats — they allow us to catch problems earlier, often before obvious symptoms appear.
Your cat may not tell you when they feel sick… but small behavior changes can speak volumes. 🖤
