Double S Equine is a local, family business ran and owned by Blake and Jess Schaefer of Glenwood,IA. We hope by combining our years of experience and love for horses to help others in living out their equine dreams.We are dedicated to offering services in Southwestern Iowa to benefit both horse and rider, from training to lessons to farrier services and breeding. Blake is an Oklahoma Horseshoeing

school graduate and has been providing farrier services in the local area for the past 8 years. He focuses on the individual horse's needs and balances them accordingly. We believe in keeping the foot as natural as possible but realize there are sometimes measures needed dependent on the individual hoof and horse. Our current clientele include horses from all walks of life - from barrel racers, ropers, jumpers, pasture pets, navicular ponies, to your trail horses and babysitters. We also offer select training programs that we tailor around you and your horse whether it be starting a c**t to putting in miles and wet saddle blankets to discipline specific teaching. We specialize in Western riding but have experience in English and track racing as well. We do offer lessons for horse and rider,from basic horsemanship to discipline specifics, and always highly encourage learning alongside your equine partner whether through groundwork or in the saddle. We offer the option of either onsite lessons or coming to you. We are proud to say that we are now kicking off and offering a breeding program at Double S. Dash N Drake is now standing in the Glenwood area as a registered AQHA stud. Lines from Dash for Cash and Skipper W make up this handsome boys lineage, which not only are proven for speed and endurance but also for sharp minds and an appeal that will get you noticed in every crowd. We are doing limited breedings this first season and offering special pricing for the first few mares and extending possible training on future c**ts that hit the ground at a discounted price. Yesterday was farrier day for the Double B horses. Routine hoof maintenance and proper balancing and shoeing are so very important. We are firm believers in “No hoof- no horse.”

How long do your horses go between trims?

Mega’s first “ride”. Always try to keep a horse light and believe they should be started in a hackamore (I prefer a rope hackamore myself). Bits are not for control but for finesse and a different type of communication with a horse - communication that no newly started horse can understand in the beginning.

Groundwork is vital in putting a solid foundation on any horse- no matter what their job or purpose may be.
