Orange is the new black—at least for today!

To wrap up our celebration of National Ginger Cat Appreciation Day (with BUTTERSCOTCH featured earlier), here is an overview in photos of the furry ginger love we have gracing our rescue right now! Spanning the spectrum from kitten to senior, all the cats pictured are available for adoption, with the exception of COSMO, who has made FTCS his loving sanctuary home due to temperament and needs. (Please note that INDY is available for adoption but has special needs.)

We’re happy to shine the spotlight for the day on these beautiful felines reflecting the colors of sunsets, campfires, pumpkins, and autumn leaves—so fitting as we start the shift into the fall season! Of course, it’s always the season to love cats, so if you’re thinking of adding one to your family (ginger or otherwise), please do feel free to fill out our adoption application so we can find a time for you to come meet whichever ones you’d like…or, as it sometimes goes, whichever ones would like to meet you! 😉

September 1 is National Ginger Cat Appreciation Day, and we’d like to celebrate by asking if someone could please come adopt the amazing BUTTERSCOTCH right now?? This big, buff-colored mush appears to have no flaws, and it is almost too much that he is not already someone’s beloved family member as he so deserves to be!

BUTTERSCOTCH manages to be even sweeter than his namesake (with no need to worry about calories!), especially with other cats. He gets along with everyone feline and would love to find a home with at least one other friendly kitty. He is affectionate, easygoing, and so discriminating that he chose a yellow background for his photo shoot, rocking both his name and the ginger theme! Who could ask for more than that kind of feline savviness?!

While we could go on and on about how fabulous BUTTERSCOTCH is, we’ll let his photos and video (see video in comments) speak for themselves. If you are interested in this marvelous boy or any of our ginger or other-colored kitties, please fill out the no-obligation adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/81848821130152, and we’ll be delighted to find a time for you to come visit. Happy National Ginger Cat Appreciation Day to these beautiful cats and all felines everywhere! 🐈

BRUCE and BILLIE are adorable brothers, ready for their next adventure, with some tuxedo loving adopters! They are full of kitten playfulness and love people. We have had them since they were small, so both are confident, social, and they have always been HAPPY! BRUCE on the left is a talker and has been the most crazy player, but BILLIE holds his own, he just likes to stop for cuddles and kisses a little more. We rescued them with their mom from a Rappahannock colony, and hope they find an adopter soon, because these two will bring so much love and fun to whomever adopts them 😽💙😽

HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY to COLBY 🎂 who lives in his second FOREVER home with Emily and her husband 🥰 after returning from his first home, when his adopter Mark passed away unexpectedly from a medical procedure. COLBY had lived there for 4 years, but was so lucky to then be adopted by Emily and her husband, who have given him a wonderful and loving family. We thank them so much for sending these photos and letting us know how great he is doing. COLBY especially loves his big sister, Penny 💙 ☺ and CELEBRATES 1 year with his new mom and dad, and his 6th Birthday!

Three months ago we took in a scrawny and sick kitten, who couldn't see out of infected eyes, and had a wound with maggots. It's never a good sign when you see maggots, but we named him CHANCE because he had such spirit and we wanted him to make it so badly. We syringe fed him and got his eyes and wound treated, and he did gave us a scare one weekend when he stopped peeing, but thanks to the Warren County Veterinary Clinic, he was seen and got a catheter for a few days, after which he recovered. CHANCE is full of energy and joy, and now he's over his "Let me chew on your hand for an hour" stage, he's turned into such a loving, friendly kitty. If you would like to meet him, and already love his adorable photo, please fill out the (no-obligation) adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/81848821130152

AERO and BEAR are two of our cats who get some time to explore the garden, and they would love to find a home where they can be inside cuddle bugs and outside explorers. Not that they go far, they just love the stimulation and adventure of stalking bugs, sunning themselves, and lurking in the plants! Both are just over a year old, so friendly and loving and would make great family pets. They love other cats and one another, so in our dreams they would find a wonderful home together. AERO used to be paired with TIGER, but now that he's decided he really wants to be an inside/outside kitty, he's got more in common with BEAR. TIGER is pretty happy inside still. If you have a safe outside area, and would like to add two incredibly loving cats to your life, these two boys would be PURfect!
Please fill out the (no-obligation) adoption application at https://form.jotform.com/81848821130152 if you would like to meet AERO or BEAR.

We have had a few returns this year, so this is a post to remind us of all the wonderful forever homes our cats have found. Mika adopted BEAR, the fluffy black and white cat, in 2019, and TOPAZ the orange and white cat, in 2024. She recently sent us these photos and an update: "We moved back to Germany in late May, and the boys are loving it here. We had them in-cabin with us during the flight, and they did so good! We didn‘t have any issue with them disliking each other after the long trip either, if anything it seems like they get along a little better! Anywho, I just wanted to let you know the two kitties moved all the way back home with me, and I attached some pictures I took in the last months. I was soooo happy they did so well! Topaz even wanted to explore the TSA booth and was more disgruntled I didn‘t let him do that than he was about the whole moving thing in general, hahaha. They hid for less than a day, too. After that they were behaving like they have always lived here and own the place."
We love these updates and knowing that BEAR came from a colony, and TOPAZ a hoarding situation in Castleton, just makes it even better. THANK YOU MIKA, you rock as a cat mom!
