Ranch Hands Looking for Work!

Our young ranch hands are growing up, and it’s time for these boys to find farms of their own!

These handsome fellas are primarily Anatolian Shepherd, born and raised here at Black Dog Farm alongside our experienced working livestock guardian dogs.
Gunnar is tan and black and
Erling is white and tan (yes…I watched the World Cup 😆).

They’ve been raised around goats, sheep, cattle, horses, pigs, and all sorts of poultry. They’re learning the ropes, developing their natural guardian instincts, and getting a wonderful start as working livestock guardians.

They’re still youngsters with plenty to learn, but they’ve got a strong foundation and some excellent four-legged mentors showing them the way.

We’re looking for dedicated livestock homes where they can continue their training, grow into their responsibilities, and do what livestock guardian dogs were bred to do—live with and protect their herds and flocks.

Good guardians aren’t made overnight. They’re raised with the livestock they will one day protect.

Located in Marlow, Oklahoma.

💙Samhain — The Turning of the Seasons

There is something beautiful about discovering how deeply our heritage is woven into the way we live.

In the old Irish traditions, Samhain marked the end of harvest and the beginning of winter.
A time to gather what the land had given, prepare the animals for colder days, fill the pantry, and welcome the quieter season ahead.

Here on our little Oklahoma farm, those same rhythms are still part of our everyday lives.

The gardens are winding down, the pantry shelves are filling, and the animals are preparing for winter.

Perhaps that’s why reconnecting with my Irish heritage feels so natural. Different centuries, different lands, but the same simple connection to the earth and its seasons.

Today, November 1, marks the beginning of winter in the old Celtic calendar.

And while autumn still lingers here in Oklahoma, we welcome this turning of the year with grateful hearts, full pantries, and appreciation for the land and animals entrusted to our care.

From our little corner of Oklahoma, welcoming the season with an old Irish heart.

🦋 A Little Fall Magic at Black Dog Farm 🍂

Every fall, we’re blessed with hundreds of beautiful Monarch butterflies passing through our farm on their long journey south.

They gather in our trees overnight and spend their days fluttering through the wildflowers, stopping to rest and refuel before continuing on.

It’s one of those simple, beautiful reminders of just how special life on the farm can be. ❤️

Safe travels, little beauties! 🦋

❤️ Nigerian Dwarf Doe Available — Currently in Milk

Farm life isn’t always easy, and unfortunately, we had a little heartbreak overnight.

Our 1-year-old Nigerian Dwarf doe delivered twins that we believe arrived a bit too early.
Sadly, neither baby survived.

This was her first freshening, and while it wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for, she is now in milk.

She is available to a new farm as a first-freshening milking doe. She is young, with plenty of potential ahead of her, and we’d love to find her a good home.

🐐 Breed: Nigerian Dwarf
❤️ Age: 1 year old
🥛 Milking status: First freshener, currently in milk
🌿 Availability: Available for a new farm
📍 Location: Black Dog Farm — Marlow, Oklahoma

If you’re interested in adding a young Nigerian Dwarf milking doe to your farm, please send us a private message for more details. ❤️

🌺I just love finding these little pieces of wisdom from days gone by. ❤️

This old page of household advice from a -Betty Crocker Cookbook 1961-is such a sweet reminder that even generations ago, people were trying to figure out how to get everything done without wearing themselves completely out.

Some of my favorites:

❤️ Harbor pleasant thoughts while working.

❤️ Get outdoors every day.

❤️ Take a few minutes to rest when you’re tired.

❤️ Find something refreshing to do, even if it’s just listening to music.

❤️ Remember that recreation is good for the soul.

And my favorite reminder of all? You don’t have to be on your feet every minute to be productive.

Life certainly hasn’t gotten any less busy, but maybe some of the best advice really is the simplest.

Sometimes I think we could all use a little more of this old-fashioned wisdom. ❤️

It’s 2 AM on the farm.

A shadow, a bucket full of warm bottles, and a faithful guardian dog by my side.

It’s the side of farming and ranch life most people never see.
The sleepless nights, the little lives depending on us, and the work that can’t wait until morning.

Nothing glamorous.
Just responsibility, a whole lot of love, and a little beauty in the quiet of the night. ❤️

🍂Fall babies are the sweetest kind of farm blessing!

Tiny hooves, fluffy little faces, and a whole lot of bouncing, bleating, and mischief! 🍁

Our fall lambs are stealing hearts and keeping us on our toes here at Black Dog Farm! 🐑❤️
