This page is not our rescue's main page, it is only a simple way for people to see what is involved in being a volunteer for EHR and part of the kennel enrichment team, while also showing off some amazingly adoptable dogs. We, as volunteers, love every second we have to spend with the goofy and fun-loving babies of Eleventh Hour Rescue's kennel. Meet Pongo, the dashingly handsome 12-year-old retriever/hound mix who’s about 60 pounds!

This playful and affectionate guy is friendly, energetic, and loves the great outdoors! A long stroll at the park is one of his favorite things and he walks so nicely on the leash. He gets along well with other dogs outside the home (though he’d prefer to be your one and only at home) and even cats. There’s one thing Pongo isn't thrilled about: sharing his prized toys. 👀
This senior pooch believes in the mantra "what's mine is mine!" He needs an owner that will respect his preference to not share his high valued items.

*Pongo would thrive best in a home without kids and needs an experienced dog owner who can provide the structure he needs while continuing his training. With the right guidance, he'll feel confident and relaxed in his new home.

Saturdays at Eleventh Hour Rescue aren’t just another day… they’re tail-wagging fresh starts! This weekend, you’ll meet pups who are ready to leap into new lives filled with love, snuggles, and second chances. 🎉💖

🐶 This week’s lineup is wag-tastic:

⭐️ 3 foster pups – already proving how wonderful life in a home can be, they’re ready to show you their best manners and snuggle skills. 🛋

⭐️ 6 kennel dogs (featured below)– patiently waiting, but they need adopters or fosters to escape another night in cages alone. 🙏

⭐️ 6 fresh arrivals off transport (featured below)– their journey brought them here for one reason: YOU! Without fosters or adopters today, they’ll head to kennel runs, too, instead of into loving homes. 💔

✨ Spotlight Pup: Tate ✨
Tate will be there and he is one of our special Diamond Dogs, which means his adoption fee is 100% sponsored! This handsome sweetheart is ready to shine and is just waiting for his forever (OR foster) person to polish him. 💎🐾

Want a pup 🐾 who already knows basic, or even advanced, obedience skills? Then take a chance on a kennel pup! Our longer term resident dogs often have STELLAR 💫 basic obedience skills. Stanley here even has professional board and training in his history. Older dogs are often house trained, crate trained, and know all those basic commands people struggle to teach their puppies or younger dogs. And don't worry, our lips are sealed 🤫 you can pretend you were the one that taught your kennel pup to be such a good boy or girl. 😉

Puppy Palooza! 🚨

Meet the cutest little puppies- Watermelon 🍉 and Peaches 🍑! These cuties arrived at our rescue this weekend and somehow weren’t snatched up immediately. Can you share them to help find their forever homes?

🍉Watermelon- Watermelon is a stunning 4-month-old Catahoula mix! He is a happy, friendly, outgoing, typical puppy. He will be medium to large-sized when he is full-grown. Watermelon is sweet, playful, and enjoys playing with toys. He is currently 20lbs.

🍑 Peaches- Peaches is a stunning 4-month-old mixed breed! We aren't quite sure exactly what breed he is, some kind of adorable mutt! Peaches is goofy, friendly, and loves everyone. He will be medium to large-sized when he is full-grown. He is currently about 20lbs.

Both pups are microchipped, up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations, and neutered. The kennel is no place for a puppy. Help us find their happily ever after! Visit ehrdogs.org for more info!

This Wednesday, skip the bar and join us for Yappy Hour instead! At Eleventh Hour Rescue's open adoption hours, you will meet-and-greet happy tails, hopeful hearts, and your next four-legged best friend! We even have two debut star pups named Sonny and Cher making their appearance!

📅 WHEN? Wednesday, August 20th | 4–7 PM
📍 WHERE? EHR - Roxbury Event Center
275 Route 10 East, Succasunna, NJ

Let's toast to second chances! 🥂
The lineup will include:

🐶 2 adorable foster dogs mingling, already enjoying life outside the shelter while they search for forever families.
🏠 10 sweet kennel dogs (all featured below) who, unlike Cher, are 🎶 sitting around and waiting for YOU 🎶.

When 7 PM rolls around, the party’s over…
and those 10 kennel dogs go back. Alone. 💔
No belly rubs. No backyard zoomies.

Unwind with Your New Canine 🐶💖

Cedar is here to give you Tip #2 for introducing your newly adopted pet into your household:

✨ Have an area for your dog to call their own—whether it’s a crate, a gated-off room, or a cozy corner. This “safe space” or “zen den” should always be a comfort zone, never a punishment spot.

Remember the 3-3-3 Rule

🐾 First 3 Days – Decompression
Your new pup may feel anxious or overwhelmed. Give them calm, quiet space to settle in.

🐾 Next 3 Weeks – Settling In
Their personality begins to shine. Expect boundary-testing while building routine and consistency.

🐾 First 3 Months – Feeling at Home
Trust and security grow. Your bond deepens, and their true self blossoms.

Why Decompression Matters:

Many rescues see pups returned simply because they weren’t given enough time. Your dog may have just left transport, kennels, or a foster home. Allowing decompression helps them feel safe and loved, laying the foundation for lifelong trust.

Take a breath. Slow down. Be patient. ❤️ Your new best friend deserves it.

Cedar is a 7-year-old, 68 lb bundle of love who’s great with dogs, he’s even our resident dog tester! He has spent 439 days living at our kennel. 😢 Cedar is playful, goofy, and affectionate, who loves swimming in the kiddie pool, and snuggling after an adventure. He’s house, crate, and leash trained, rides well in the car, and is eager to please. Cedar will do best with a patient family willing to meet him a couple of times before taking him home, but once he knows you, you’ll have a loyal best friend for life. ❤️

It's silly selfie Sunday outtakes with Sandy and her kennel buddy Alex! Just look at that smile! Meet Sandy, our energetic and affectionate girl who's found herself at our shelter after her previous owner sadly decided they could no longer keep her. At 3 years old and fully grown at 55 lbs, Sandy has a joyful and enthusiastic personality that makes everyone smile This sweet girl loves her toys and getting plenty of pets. She's a quick learner too, already mastering basic commands like Sit, Lay, Roll over, and Paw. Sandy is both house trained and crate trained, too! While Sandy gets along well with all people, she would be best suited for a family with older or considerate kids who can match her energy and enthusiasm. And let's not forget her love for other dogs—Sandy is a social butterfly with her canine friends! But she would also be quite happy to be your one and only Don't be surprised if you catch Sandy doing her famous "zoomies" around the yard; she's got energy to spare! 🐾 Hi friends, I’m Dennis Athens and I just rolled into NJ today! 🚐✨

I’m 6 months old, 31 lbs, and I come fully equipped with a big goofy grin, the cutest ears, and bursting with affection. 💙

I’m friendly with everyone (dogs included 🐶), sweet as can be, enjoy car rides 🚗, toys, treats, and snuggles. Basically… I’m the total package!

I’m microchipped, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. Simply waiting for a foster or forever family to scoop me up. 🏡 Please don't make me live at the kennel long 🙏, these paws were made for exploring and my heart was made for loving... YOU!
