Our team member SkyHound Deer Recovery providing excellent guidance here... it is ALWAYS best when you are in doubt, back out! The absolute best benefit of the drone is it will not push your deer or other wildlife. Our thermal drones give us the opportunity to locate your buck without disturbing other animals, and another benefit, if it's not expired, our equipment capabilities allow us to sometimes zoom in right on the wound and assist in determining if it's a fatal wound.... and if it is, we'll pin the location and come back within 24hrs for a health check!

Time matters! As SkyHound Deer Recovery states here, your own strategy can and will determine whether you’re ending your day happy or not. Our pilots have one goal, to locate your harvest. Trust your shot and trust your instincts. If you think you hit a good shot but have little to no blood, back out. If you think you may have a gut shot, back out. There are endless scenarios where our drones have turned frustrated hunters into smiling faces. 🦌 😊

Early season means full leaf cover. Our thermal can’t see through extremely thick canopy— we need gaps in the canopy to spot heat signatures below.

That’s why we fly low (just above the trees) and slow (checking every opening).

What we’re looking for: 🔍 Gaps between canopy 🔍 Open trails and clearings 🔍 Field edges where deer often bed 🔍 Creek bottoms with less canopy

We know deer behavior. After a shot, they usually:

Head for thick cover (but not always the thickest)
Stop near water sources
Bed down within 200-400 yards
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING:

The quicker you get us out, the better. Don’t risk bumping your deer — bumping it more than once reduces the likelihood of us finding it by more than 75%.

Call us BEFORE you grid search. The drone won’t push your deer further.
