Just because a dog has a single coat doesn't mean they're built for the heat ☀️🐾
Whether your dog has a short coat like a Whippet or a longer coat like a Shih Tzu, they can still be sensitive to hot weather. Unlike double-coated breeds, single-coated dogs don't have an undercoat for added insulation and protection.
Help keep your dog comfortable this summer by:
• Walking during cooler parts of the day
• Providing plenty of fresh water
• Offering shade and cool places to rest
• Keeping up with regular brushing
• Watching for signs of overheating
For many single-coated dogs, shaving extremely short isn't always the best way to keep them cool. Their coat helps provide protection from sun exposure, skin irritation, and environmental elements.
Heat stress can become dangerous quickly, so a little extra care can go a long way in helping your dog stay safe and comfortable all summer long ❤️
