Here are some tips to help your new pet feel safe and loved in their new home:
🐾 Go slow – Let your new friend decompress in a quiet space before meeting other pets or family.
👀 Watch for stress signals – Pacing, lip licking, hiding? Give them space. Let curiosity guide the introduction.
🐕 Dogs – Introduce on neutral ground and keep first meetings short and positive.
🐈 Cats – Start with separation, scent swaps, and short, supervised visits.
💗 Be patient – Transitions take time, but love and consistency make all the difference.

Penny’s peaceful snooze is your goal. 💤💞 Got questions about pet introductions? Drop them below—we’re here to help!

We’re proud to once again be recognized by for maintaining no-kill status in 2024, saving 90% or more of pets who entered our shelter.

This level of lifesaving takes dedication, resources, rescue partners, and community support every single day. Because of you, we have achieved this milestone for another year. We’re so proud to be able to rescue cats and dogs from kill shelters and help homeless pets find a loving home.

We’re committed as ever to showing up for the animals and saving even more lives.

As temperatures rise, it’s important to protect your pets from heat-related risks. Here’s what you need to know to keep them safe this summer:

🌡️ Limit outdoor activity during peak heat (10 AM–4 PM). Choose early morning or evening walks, and always check the pavement—if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
💧 Provide constant access to fresh, cool water and shady spaces. Add ice to bowls during heat waves and avoid enclosed areas like doghouses that trap heat.
🚗 NEVER leave pets in vehicles, even briefly. Temperatures can become dangerous in minutes.
❤️ Watch for signs of heatstroke like excessive panting, drooling, red gums, and lethargy. Seek veterinary care immediately if symptoms appear.
🧼 Prevent summer hazards—keep up with flea, tick, and heartworm prevention, and avoid toxic plants like poison ivy.
🏊‍♂️ Practice pool safety: Supervise pets around water, and use barriers or flotation devices if needed.

Keeping your pets cool and comfortable can help them enjoy summer safely—just like the rest of us!
