Finally sharing this piece from earlier in the fall— the result of a disciplined return to paper flower making. Studying, dyeing, cutting and relearning technique… while taking a few creative liberties with shape and season. She’s found her new home and I’m excited to create more this winter.

The colors of late September, gathered into a bouquet.

Our bride described her vision as “olive greens and different shades of oranges—wild and organic.” This bouquet brings that to life with layers of dahlias, zinnias, asters, and bits of foliage and texture fresh from the season.

It’s a little wild, a little refined—and the perfect reflection of autumn’s beauty.

A bouquet for a love story five decades strong. Wild, seasonal blooms to honor a beautiful vow renewal on the beach.
💕
No vision needed—just your story, and I’ll bring it to life in flowers.

Peonies and sweet peas: a quintessential pairing.

There’s no secret unlock on peonies for Florida… despite the lore of the “friend of a neighbor” who got her peonies to bloom by religiously applying bags of ice. 😉

But these perennial sweet peas are as local as they get and blooming their hearts out despite the recent heat. ‘Lathyrus latifolius’ delivering fuschia to pale blue in her flower petals and the tendrils we all need.

Delicate details, a family-only ceremony, and a dress that floated like a dream—this May elopement on Cumberland Island was softness, styled.

For this intimate gathering at the Greyfield Inn, we created garden-style bouquets and boutonnieres to complement the bride’s Tuileries gown by Monique Lhuillier. The florals—hydrangea, dahlia, ranunculus, delphinium, and phlox—came together in a palette just as romantic and intentional as the dress they supported.

And yes, sending a la carte florals across the river on the 'Lucy R. Ferguson' always comes with a touch of florist anxiety (okay, a lot), but the Greyfield Inn team always takes the best care of our blooms. Every single time.

One of our favorite floral moments from JL & A’s daytime garden celebration back in May.

Instead of placing the cake in a corner, the couple wanted it to be part of the overall experience—a feature, not an afterthought. So we created a full “cake meadow” that felt natural and airy, with a range of blooms in peach, orange, pale blue, and creamy whites. The florals circled the base of the table as if they were actively in bloom, celebrating the moment and creating that perfect photo op.

Was drawn this week to the complementary tones of our hydrangeas and Gomphocarpus physocarpus… the idea kept bouncing around in my head until it landed here, in the vase. From chartreuse to bronze—an exploration of texture and a quiet nod to the season.

A little about us...

The Heirloom Yard is an urban flower farm in Fernandina Beach, Florida - producing locally-grown specialty cut flowers. Our floral and botanical offerings focus on unique colors, textures and scents that are seasonal to North Florida. We are committed to ecologically sensitive growing methods while not compromising on our standards for fresh, distinctive and lush blooms.

In 2020, we will be transforming an untended, empty parcel in the historic district of Fernandina Beach into a small space, high intensity cut flower garden - just a few steps away from our home. We plan to be blooming by late 2020!

Stay connected with us on our journey!
