Update for the Xander fans! He is doing really well! We may never be able to reverse the damage to his body, but we are trying. His blood glucose for the last week has been really good compared to his original reading 2 weeks ago. So much so that he has only needed an isulin shot 4 times since Monday. Thats great because since Monday he has had 10 readings. He is also p**ping normally! He did require subq fluids once this week. He was starting to get dehydrated, but doing well since than. Xander is on a complicated regimen of meds and laxatives. Four times a day he is getting something. It can be all consuming for his foster mom, but she would do anything for him.

Meet Gabriella—affectionately known as Gabby—a charming 1½-year-old torby whose coat is a stunning blend of classic brown tabby stripes intertwined with whimsical tortoiseshell splashes, reminiscent of a Jackson Po***ck masterpiece painted across her petite frame. Though Gabby once ruled the roost as the fierce and feisty “Gabby-saurus-Rex” or “Raptor-ella,” she’s gracefully matured into a sweet, quirky companion with a playful spirit and a heart full of affection.

Gabby wears her “tortitude” with pride, and while she may come with a bit of sass, she’s a wittle-gabby-smabby girl who thrives when given time and patience to build trust. She’s not one to rush love, but once she decides you’re her person, her loyalty is unmatched. By night, she delights in perching on her dad’s shoulder, joining in the gaming action as a quiet, watchful sidekick. Her affection shines too in gentle head-butts to my daughter and curling up comfortably on her pillow. As her foster mom, I’m privileged to earn the occasional tender lick—always diplomatically reminded by Gabby that consent truly is a two-way street.

Highly food motivated, Gabby is learning to twirl for her dinner, turning mealtime into a delightful performance. She’s ready for a forever home that honors her unique personality, embraces her gentle soul, and celebrates the joy of earning her trust. Could you be the special someone to write the next chapter in Gabby’s story?

Apollo is a stunning American Bully and Pitbull mix (DNA results from Embark are available), who is 3 years old and has been in our facility for OVER 530 DAYS! We are at a loss on what to do for this boy. He is scared of men, but if the man puts in the effort to gain his trust, you'll have a friend for life-ask our male ACO who befriended him. We're hoping one of our rescue friends may be able to help get Apollo into a new living situation. We know that the shelter is no place for a dog, especially for this long.

He is up to date on all vaccinations, dewormed, neutered, flea and tick treated, and heartworm negative. Please, if you can give this boy a chance it would mean the world.

I would like tell you that Xander is doing really well. He has been passing nugget stool all weekend. His blood glucose is doing pretty well. I the upper 100's to lower 200's. For a cat that went to the vet and had a blood glucose of 423, he is doing well. There may not be a way to reverse the damage that has been done to his body, but right now he is happy and wanting to be petted. Thank you for the donations.

Many of you may have been following the story of Xander and his current medical issues. This is an update. I would post on the other post but thought I would just post an update from today. Yesterday I dropped Xander at our vet for testing and Xrays. Later that day I received a call from the vet to let me know his results. Xanders liver levels are high which could be from the diabetes. The test for his pancreas signified that he does have pancreatitis. The xray shows that his colon is not as dilated as it was a week ago, but he did have a lot of stool. The good news is that it was soft. They gave him fluids because he was dehydrated. The vet and I talked and we had to have a serious discussion of what to do next. I asked them to please keep him overnight and see how he does. This morning I called to see how he did over night. He was alert and eager to eat. They said they would call me later after the vet sees him. At about 1pm I received the call. Xander could come home. We have to watch him and make sure we can get him to pass stool. They did give him enemas and could get some out but he wasn't trying on his own. At about 6pm I brought him home and tested his glucose, fed him, and gave him insulin. I got up to discard supplies used to treat him. As I stood there Xander went to the litter box. He hunched his back and tried to go to the bathroom. I watched him hoping for something, anything. He hadn't even tried to go to the bathroom because the nerves in his colon were not working correctly. I stood with wide eyes. He finishes trying and turned around to look to see if he needs to cover anything. As he moved away there was a piece of p**p! It wasn't a lot but it was something! He will have to go in for more test as time progresses. My hope is we can get him stable. I want him to live a happy life for as long as I have him.
