This this this!!!

I absolutely love all of your kids & want the very very best for them but sometimes they need some tough love and to struggle a little bit.

Yes sometimes a horse may be doing something and I don’t immediately say anything- they know what to do and I know they do 💗

💛I’m Going to Let Your Child Struggle 💛

When your child comes for lessons with me, I’m going to let them struggle sometimes.

They may have never fastened a buckle on a piece of tack. A saddle might be heavy and awkward. Their lead rope may be a tangled mess. And something that would take me ten seconds might take them five minutes.

I’m not going to immediately step in and do it for them. *Unless its a safety issue.*

Because someday, I want your child to walk into the barn, catch their own horse, tack up, and head out feeling completely confident in their own abilities.

Why?

Because they’re learning that they can do hard things.

So yes, I’ll help when something is beyond a child's physical ability. I’ll encourage, demonstrate, and keep them safe.

But when they *can* do it? I’m going to give them the time to fumble with the buckle. Untangle the rope. Try again. And figure it out.

Parents, I know watching that can be hard. You’ll want to jump in and make it easier.

But sometimes the greatest gift we can give a child is not making the hard thing easier.

It’s standing beside them long enough for them to discover:

“I can do this myself.”

UPDATE:

If you didn’t already know, I’m moving from Fayetteville to Harrison to join the UA NorthArk Softball Team!!

NWA Clients: Don’t worry! I will STILL be teaching lessons, working at TMR, and serving the area just like I have been! My lessons will mainly be on Fridays & Saturdays, with some Sundays as needed since I’ll be able to come home most weekends!

HARRISON: I would absolutely love to build a clientele in the area! I can do occasional date night babysitting, pet/house sitting, riding lessons (on your horses—unless you want to travel to Elkins), horse exercise and tune-ups, and I may even be able to teach softball lessons.

I absolutely love this business and all the animals and people I get to work with. As I move into this new chapter of my life, I’m still making it a priority, and I can’t wait to keep working with both my current and future clients! 🤍

Please feel free to message me at 479-430-0725 or on this page with any questions or to get something booked!

PSA

If you have kids who rodeo, or plan on it, this is for you.

There is a disconnect between contestants, committees, contractors, and personnel.

Contestants and parents don’t always see the countless hours committees put into producing a rodeo. Most committee members are volunteers who do it for the love of the sport. Or the 12hour days a judge dedicates in the hot sun to making the best decision they can in the moment, or the secretary who spends hours crunching numbers and making sure everything is right. Or the contractors who bring the absolute best stock they can for kids to learn. Nobody’s trying to retire on Jr rodeo. There’s a lot easier ways to make a living.

Here’s the thing, none of them have to do it. If it wasn’t for those men and women, we wouldn’t have junior rodeo. Junior rodeo is literally the next generation. They do it because they love the sport, just like all of us.

Do you think they enjoy cleaning up after you? The hay, manure, garbage, and mess you leave behind? That’s why a lot of them charge a camping fee that many people don’t pay…..

Committees get burned out dealing with entitled, disrespectful parents. They quit putting on rodeos, or they become discouraged, and the disconnect only grows.

As parents, we are showing the next generation what respect looks like. You are raising the next generation.

We’re all human and we all make mistakes, but have a little grace. At the end of the day, we’re all on the same team. Rodeo is a way of life that only a very small percentage of people have the privilege to enjoy. There are many people that would love to see our dying sport go away. Let’s not self sabotage.

Tell the judge thank you for his time. Tell the secretary thank you for her hard work. Tell the lady working the gate all weekend in the hot sun, thank you.

Entitlement kills gratitude, and gratitude is the foundation of respect.

If we don’t leave rodeo better than we found it, then what?

Do better
