We wanted to take a moment to honor our tiny little friend, Barry.
Barry came into rescue severely matted, in poor health, and neglected. His owner had passed away, and the family left her five dogs behind at the house, only stopping by to throw food in the yard. Barry was one of them.
We don't know much about Barry's life before us, and we truly hope his first 14 years were full of love, care, and adventures. But we know his last few months before rescue were not. Blind, deaf, scared, alone, and never sure where his next meal would come from.
We brought Barry in knowing he might never make it to adoption. We loved him anyway. We kept him clean and comfortable. We gave him his medications, ran his blood work, and worked to diagnose the severe cough that was making him miserable.
In the end, we knew what we had to do. The kindest decision was to help Barry pass peacefully.
We know his final weeks were full of love. We know he felt safe. And we are honored to have been a small part of his journey to peace.
These decisions are never easy. Some days the weight of stepping in and making these huge decisions for dogs we hardly know, dogs we wish we knew so much more about, is almost too much. But we remind ourselves that caring for these animals is a privilege. And caring for our sweet Barry was one of the greatest honors.
Rest easy, Barry. We love you so much.
