We have cichlid babies! We can't wait to see what they end up being!

For those who don't know, cichlids are mouth brooders, which means the female holds the eggs in her mouth for several weeks until they hatch into free-swimming fry. This prevents the eggs from being eaten by the other fish. During this time, she doesn't eat and loses a large percentage of her body weight. Once they are able to swim, she spits them out and will sometimes continue to provide protection for them.

These babies still have egg sacs attached, which provide them all the nutrtion they need until they can easily swim around to find their own food.
