A dog's sense of smell is truly incredible! While humans have about 5 million scent receptors, dogs can have up to 300 million depending on the breed. That means their noses are estimated to be 10,000 to 100,000 times more powerful than ours! 🤯

✔ Detect certain diseases and medical conditions

☀️🐾 Heat Exhaustion Can Turn Into an Emergency Fast 🐾☀️

As temperatures rise, our pets are at risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes.

🚩 Signs of heat exhaustion include:
✔ Excessive panting
✔ Drooling
✔ Bright red gums
✔ Weakness or lethargy
✔ Vomiting or diarrhea
✔ Difficulty walking or standing
✔ Collapse or seizures

Remember, pets can overheat quickly—even on days that don't feel extremely hot to us. Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, ensure they always have access to fresh water, and limit exercise during the hottest parts of the day.

🐶 Hot pavement can also burn paws! If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their feet.

If you suspect your pet is suffering from heat exhaustion, move them to a cool area, offer small amounts of water, and seek veterinary care immediately.

🌾🐾 Foxtails: A Small W**d with Big Risks 🐾🌾

Foxtail weeds may look harmless, but they can be extremely dangerous for pets. Their sharp, barbed seed heads can become lodged in your pet's skin, ears, nose, eyes, paws, and even travel deeper into the body, causing serious infections and pain.

🚩 Signs your pet may have a foxtail include:
✔ Excessive sneezing
✔ Head shaking or ear scratching
✔ Limping or licking at a paw
✔ Red, swollen, or draining skin lesions
✔ Squinting or eye irritation

Unlike splinters, foxtails don't break down and can continue to migrate through tissue, making prompt veterinary care important.

🐶 Before and after walks, especially in grassy areas, check your pet's paws, ears, coat, and between their toes for foxtails. Long-haired pets may need extra attention.

If you think your pet may have encountered a foxtail, don't wait. Early treatment can help prevent serious complications.
